This is the second time that Bihar will host the Women’s Kabaddi World Cup.

The International Kabaddi Federation has finalised the dates for the second edition of the Women’s Kabaddi World Cup 2025 to be held in Rajgir, Bihar. The World Cup will run from June 1 to 13, 2025, at the state-of-the-art Indoor facilities at the Rajgir Sports Academy. Earlier, this event was to be held in the second week of March.

Earlier, it was announced that it would be held from March 7 to 12. Reports suggested that the organisers wanted to move the tournament to a time when they could get a clear window without other sporting events in India. The broadcasters agreed, and the schedule was pushed from March to June.

The Indian Premier League is the primary tournament during the Summer in India, and with the Champions Trophy and Women’s Premier League happening in February and March, the organisers moved the event to the June window. While cricket is the most loved sport in India, Kabaddi, despite being in second place, has become a fan favourite in India.

The organisers wanted to ensure that Women’s Kabaddi gets the due recognition, and this World Cup could help them do that. Bihar will be hosting the competition, much like they did in the inaugural edition in 2012. Patliputra Sports Complex, the home ground of Patna Pirates, hosted the Women’s World Cup for the first time.

Earlier this year, Asian Kabaddi Federation President Dr. Abbas Khajes Awarse and International Kabaddi Federation Director Tejaswi Gehlot had a meeting with the Bihar State Sports Authority Director General Ravindra Shankaran, and it was decided to have Rajgir as the venue for the event. The World Cup will feature 14 countries fighting for the coveted trophy.

Eight nations from Asia, along with six countries from Europe, Africa, and South America, will compete at the Rajgir Sports Complex. The IKF has issued guidelines for the competition, with a maximum cap on the weight of the women players to be 75 kgs. 14 players can be picked in the squad, and the nations will have to confirm their participation by March 31.

India will start as favorites for the event, having won the World Cup in 2012, beating Iran in a nail-biting finish. Team India has started preparing for the competition, with the coaches and managers closely watching players from the Senior Kabaddi Nationals and the sixth Asian Kabaddi Women’s Championships.
