Fazel Atrachali to lead as Iran announce squad for Asian Games 2026

Fazel Atrachali will captain Iran at the 2026 Asian Games.

The Asian Games 2026 will commence on September 19 and conclude on October 4. The Kabaddi event at the Asian Games is scheduled to take place from September 21 to 26. Teams have already begun preparations for this event and have also conducted several national coaching camps.

India have dominated Kabaddi at the Asian Games, but they were stopped from winning the gold medal only once. It happened in 2018, when Iran defeated India 27–18 in the semi-final and then won the gold medal by defeating South Korea 26–16 in the final.

Iran remain a fierce rival of the Indian team at the Asian Games, and the two teams have already faced each other in three Asian Games finals, with India winning all three. However, Iran has always put up a strong fight, and the Indian team had to earn their victories in the finals.

The Iranian team will step into the 2026 Asian Games looking to win their second gold medal. There will be some new faces, including head coach Navvab Tazehghale, who has been newly appointed, replacing Gholamreza Mazandarani.

Iran have announced their squad for the event. On that note, let’s have a look at the players who will represent the Iran men’s kabaddi team at the 2026 Asian Games.

The squad has a good mix of experienced and young players

Fazel Atrachali, who led the Iranian team to victory at the 2018 Asian Games, will continue as the team’s captain for the 2026 Asian Games as well. Mohammad Reza Shadloui is also part of the team; he is a star in his own right and an excellent all-rounder.

Reza Mirbagheri, who represents the Jaipur Pink Panthers in the PKL, will be seen at left cover for the team, while Amir Md. Zafardanesh, Ali Samadi, Heider Ekrami, and Alireza Mirzaeian are the raiders selected to represent the team.

Mohammad Nabibakhsh will be another all-rounder who could trouble opponents while representing Iran. At the right corner, Amir Bastami and Amir Ejlali will be seen. The right-cover position will be rotated between Omir Khojasteh and Ali Eyvozi.
