Former Kabaddi star Deepak Hooda’s wife accused him of dowry harassment in February.

Former Indian Kabaddi team captain and BJP leader Deepak Niwas Hooda finds himself at the center of a legal battle after his wife, former boxing world champion Saweety Boora who earlier accused Hooda of dowry harassment in February launched a fresh allegation against 2016 South Asian Games Gold Medalist now involves police inaction on her complaint.

Saweety Boora who married Hooda in 2022, held a press conference on 23rd March, where she claimed that the Hisar police had failed to interrogate him despite her formal complaint filed in February. Boora further alleged that instead of taking action against Hooda, the police called her to the Hisar women’s police station on March 15, where she discovered that Hooda had filed countercharges against her.

“Police officers failed to interrogate Deepak Hooda in last 45 days. Instead, on March 15 the police officials called me to Hisar women’s police station where Deepak was already present. He lodged a false case against me, my father Mahender Singh, and my maternal uncle Satyawan for misbehaving and injuring him.

The police booked us in the false case and two days ago, we were forced to sit in Hisar Sadar police station for a day and were released after we got bail. The accused is roaming freely, and the SP has failed to act against him,” she alleged, as per Hindustan Times.

This escalation comes after Saweety Boora filed an FIR on February 25 in the Hisar Police station against former PKL star Hooda for Dowry Harassment, which was confirmed by SHO Seema, “An FIR dated February 25 has been lodged based on the complaint given by Saweety Boora against her husband Deepak Hooda. We gave him notice 2-3 times, but he did not turn up,” Seema said to PTI.

According to Hooda, his absence stemmed from his ill health “I have given a medical certificate and requested a later date. I will go to the police station, but I won’t speak badly about my wife. I haven’t been allowed to meet her,” Hooda said to PTI.

According to Hindustan Times, in her complaint to Hisar SP, Shashank Kumar Sawan claimed that her husband and sister-in-law Poonam harassed her over dowry demands, forcing her father to buy a Fortuner SUV instead of a Creta before the wedding. She also alleged that ex-Kabaddi star Hooda pressured her to arrange ₹1 crore for his election campaign when he contested the 2024 assembly elections from Meham on a BJP ticket, which he lost. Additionally, she claimed that he forced her to quit boxing and remain at home.

In response, Hooda filed a counter-complaint with the Rohtak police, alleging financial exploitation by Boora’s family. He claimed that before their marriage, Boora’s family took lakhs of rupees from him, which they used to buy a plot in Hisar. According to Hooda, after their wedding, her father took ₹25 lakhs, her brother ₹12 lakh, and her sister ₹9 lakh from him, while Boora herself received ₹17 lakhs before marriage.

Hooda also alleged that Boora attacked him with a knife while he was asleep and later threatened to ruin his political career when he refused to provide her with more money.
