PKL: A look at Pardeep Narwal's journey in Pro Kabaddi League

The Dubki King, Pardeep Narwal, is the only player to cross 1800 raid points in the PKL history.

Pardeep Narwal has grown to become synonymous with the Pro Kabaddi League. In his 10-year-long PKL career, he has added dozens of records to his name and continues to do so. In PKL 11, Dubki King became the first player to cross 1800 raid points, achieving the milestone in Bengaluru Bulls’ last match of season 11. Narwal has been one of the most consistent players in PKL history and is the only player to be awarded the MVP in consecutive seasons (Season 4 and 5).

Narwal has made a massive chunk of his points from his signature move called “Dubki”, from which also comes his now-famous nickname “Dubki King”. Other than the 1800 points, the maximum raid points (369 points) in one season is another massive record that Narwal holds to date.

He made his PKL debut back in Season 2 for Bengaluru Bulls and was later included by Patna Pirates in season 3, where he first stamped his authority in the league. After going unsold in the PKL 12 auction, Pardeep Narwal shockingly announced his retirement.

Let’s have a look at the stellar career of this incredible raider, who has left no stone unturned when it comes to raiding.

Season 2 (Bengaluru Bulls)

Pardeep Narwal started his PKL career in season 2 with the Bengaluru Bulls and got an opportunity in six matches. Although they did not utilise him as well as they could have, he caught the eye of the Pirates’ think-tank, who picked him up the following season. Narwal scored nine points in six matches with a success rate of 23.68% to kick off his PKL career. It surely wasn’t the best of the starts, but it was a start of something great to come.

The Dubki mania is not going to end just yet as Narwal might be playing another season, as we have got to know from the reports. Narwal’s hunger to perform hasn’t ended yet, and he wants to finish it off on a high, which certainly didn’t come in season 11. Are you excited to watch more of Pardeep Narwal in season 12?

Season 3 (Patna Pirates)

Pardeep Narwal was included in the Patna Pirates squad for the first time in season 3 after having a poor start with the Bengaluru Bulls. In this season, Narwal scored 116 points with a success rate of 62.03% and impressed one and all with his sharp and unique skills as he played a massive role in the first triumph of the Pirates in the PKL. Narwal scored five Super-10s in this season and it was the beginning of an era.

Season 4 (Patna Pirates)

Patna Pirates lifted the trophy for the second time under the leadership of Dharmaraj Cheralathan. He became an even bigger name with consecutive massive performances. Narwal scored 131 points with a success rate of 49.8% in 16 matches and proved out to be a fabulous asset for the team and built his aura on the Kabaddi mat for what was coming in the upcoming years. He scored five Super-10s this year as well and was becoming a crucial part of the franchise.

Season 5 (Patna Pirates)

Pardeep Narwal was given the responsibility to lead the side for the first time in the PKL and he did not disappoint as the Pirates ended up with the trophy for a record third time. Narwal led from the front and recorded an unbelievable milestone of scoring 369 raid points in 26 matches with a success rate of 62.96%. Moreover, he also recorded a fabulous 19 Super-10s to get his team the trophy.

Season 6 (Patna Pirates)

Pardeep Narwal was coming into this season after a record-breaking campaign the previous year. The team has massive expectations from their captain, but this wasn’t the best of the seasons for the star. Narwal scored 233 raid points in 21 matches with a success rate of 59.59%.

It was a disappointing year for the Pirates as they failed to qualify for the Eliminator and were not able to repeat their champion performance. Narwal played phenomenally once again and recorded 15 Super-10s in this season as well, but it wasn’t enough to make the team champions for the fourth time.

Season 7 (Patna Pirates)

Season 7 was Narwal’s last season with Patna Pirates, and Narwal didn’t leave anything behind. The Dubki King scored 302 raid points with a success rate of 66.66% in 22 matches.

The star raider recorded 15 Super-10s this season and was unstoppable, just like he had been at that time for the last few seasons. However, despite this extraordinary performance, he could not take his team into the playoffs and they finished in the eighth position.

Season 8 (UP Yoddhas)

After spending five spectacular seasons with the Patna Pirates, Pardeep Narwal was released, and UP Yoddhas didn’t waste any time in picking the star in their squad. Narwal had a below-average season, given his standards, and was able to score 188 raid points in 24 matches with a raid success percentage of 53.86%.

He was playing under someone else’s captaincy after a long time, as he captained the Pirates from Season 5 to Season 7. Narwal recorded 9 Super-10s this season but wasn’t at his best for his new franchise.

Season 9 (UP Yoddhas)

In the absence of Nitesh Kumar, Pradeep Narwal was given the responsibility of leading the team in the middle of this season. UP Yoddhas finished fourth in the points table and were later eliminated in the eliminator. As far as Narwal is concerned, it was a decent year for him.

The Dubki King scored 220 raid points with a success raid percentage of 59.13% in 22 matches, with 11 Super-10s under his name. It was his best performance for a team other than the Patna Pirates in the PKL.

Season 10 (UP Yoddhas)

Season 10 is when Pardeep Narwal’s form took a hit, and he didn’t look his best. After scoring nearly 250 points in season 9, Narwal managed to score just 122 raid points in 17 matches in season 10. He also had a small niggle and wasn’t at his best. Despite all that, Narwal was able to score 6 Super-10s and scored 122 points with a success raid percentage of 46.03%.

Under his captaincy, the team remained at the bottom of the table throughout the season and eventually finished 11th.

Season 11 (Bengaluru Bulls)

The latest season, PKL 11, turned out to be Pardeep Narwal’s lowest-scoring season since his debut season. Interestingly, this was some sort of a homecoming for Pardeep, who started his PKL journey with the Bulls, where he has now registered his two lowest scoring seasons. In PKL 11, Narwal scored 111 points from 20 matches with a success raid percentage of 48.05%, including 3 Super-10s.

Narwal’s poor form is also reflected in his leadership, as his team could not make any impact and finished at the bottom of the table. It was his second consecutive poor season, and his form appears to be declining over time, particularly given the way defenders have excelled against him in recent seasons.

Season 12 (Unsold)

In what felt like the closing of a golden chapter in Pro Kabaddi League history, Pardeep Narwal has announced his retirement from the sport. The emotional news came just a day after the PKL 12 auction concluded in Mumbai, where the legendary raider went shockingly unsold.

Narwal, widely regarded as the greatest raider the PKL has ever seen, entered the PKL 12 auction at a base price of ₹20 lakhs but found no takers across both days. His recent form dip may have contributed to this outcome, but few expected that not a single team would bid for a player who once carried an entire franchise on his shoulders.
