Patna Pirates shockingly release coach Randeep Dalal just after PKL 12

Randeep Dalal guided Patna Pirates to the PKL 12 playoffs.

Patna Pirates had a remarkable campaign in the Pro Kabaddi League 12 (PKL 12). Midway through the season, they were at the bottom of the table with just 3 wins in 13 matches. However, the team made a strong comeback, winning 5 consecutive games to qualify for the top 8.

Their momentum carried into the knockouts, where they secured 3 straight victories before eventually losing to the Telugu Titans in Eliminator 3.

The team’s head coach for the season, Anup Kumar, left midway through the tournament, citing personal reasons, after which the defence coach, Randeep Dalal, took over the charge. Under his guidance, the team performed brilliantly and qualified for the playoffs.

Despite Randeep’s brilliant stint, the Patna Pirates decided to release him. This decision left fans disappointed.

Patna Pirates’ history of releasing the coaches

The main reason the Pirates haven’t had the same success as before is the lack of retention of the core team.

Since Season 9, only once has a head coach stayed for multiple seasons. After a great campaign in PKL 11, where the team reached the finals but unfortunately lost, the Pirates released their head coach, Narender Redhu, right after the final. Redhu later joined the Jaipur Pink Panthers as their head coach.

For PKL 12, the Pirates appointed legendary raider Anup Kumar as their new head coach. However, the team performed poorly under his leadership, and midway through the season, it was announced that Anup had returned home due to personal reasons.

The team’s defence coach, Randeep Dalal, was then given charge of the side, and under his guidance, the Pirates made an incredible comeback, climbing from the bottom of the table to reach the playoffs. After the season concluded, Patna Pirates officially released Anup Kumar from his position as head coach.

Now, the team has also announced the release of Randeep Dalal from the coaching position, once again disappointing fans who were hoping for some stability in the coaching staff.

Reason behind the release

It comes as a surprise to fans that the team has released Randeep, who played a big role in the Pirates’ remarkable turnaround in PKL 12.

However, it seems the management is now looking to rebuild the squad and start afresh ahead of the next season. They might also be exploring options for an even more experienced and capable individual to take the head coach position and lead the team to greater success.
