Pawan Sehrawat opens up on difference between PKL & Asian Games
Pawan Sehrawat is the vice-captain of the Indian men’s kabaddi team at the Asian Games 2026.
The kabaddi event at the Asian Games 2026 will take place from 21 to 26 September. This will be one of the most exciting talking points for supporters in India. Every Indian supporter expects a gold medal from the Indian men’s kabaddi team, as they have always performed well at the Asian Games.
The Indian men’s kabaddi team won eight gold and one bronze medal, making them the most successful team in kabaddi at the Asian Games.
However, securing a victory will not be easy for the Indian team this time. Iran are more dangerous than before, and other countries like Chinese Taipei and South Korea are growing rapidly and may challenge India’s throne.
Now, ahead of the Asian Games 2026, India’s vice-captain Pawan Sehrawat talked about the difference between the Pro Kabaddi League and the Asian Games and the pressure it brings. Under Pawan’s captaincy, India won gold at the 2022 Asian Games.

Speaking to PTI, Pawan Sehrawat explained how different the Asian Games format is from the PKL.
He said, “Definitely, the formats are different. There are 20–22 matches in the PKL, and even if we lose some, there’s always a chance to make a comeback. But it is not the same in the Asian Games, and even one loss can affect us. We may not have a chance later, so every match is do or die.”
Later, when asked about the pressure of being the most successful team at the event, Pawan said that it is a plus point that history has been in their favour.
He said, “There is no pressure. It’s actually a plus point that the past has been in our favour, and maybe the future as well.”
The Indian team will step onto the mat to defend their gold medal. Pawan Sehrawat, demoted from captain to vice-captain, wants to give his all to help India win its second consecutive gold medal.
