These players are performing well this season.

Pro Kabaddi 2024 (PKL 11) is coming to an end. Many players performed brilliantly and played an important role in taking their team forward this season. At the same time, some players have proved with their performance so far that their team has not made a mistake by buying them. They have shown that they can single-handedly win their teams’ matches.

This season’s top two teams – Haryana Steelers and Patna Pirates – have many valuable players who have lived up to the trust reposed in them by performing brilliantly. On this note, let’s look at the top five best buys of PKL 11 who impressed a lot with their performances this season.

5. Sunil Kumar (U Mumba)

At the PKL 11 auctions, Sunil Kumar had broken his record of being the most expensive Indian defender, when he was purchased at Rs. 1.015 Cr. The right cover’s stats of 45 tackle points in 20 matches might not justify the tag. However, what is crucial is that he has been a wonderful leader. The 27-year-old from Sonipat is the joint most successful skipper in PKL history, with 76 wins.

Sunil has used this experience at crucial junctures, handling his defence well, making empty raids when necessary, and helping the side to hold their nerves in close matches. As a result, U Mumba has displayed their best performance since season 7.

4. Ajit Chouhan (U Mumba)

Ajit Chouhan

When Ajit Chouhan was drafted in as a New Young Player (NYP) by U Mumba, no one would have expected him to step up as the lead raider. However, the youngster has been a revelation, especially considering that Manjeet and Amirmohammad Zafardanesh have struggled for rhythm.

Ajit has 174 raid points in 20 matches (including 9 Super 10s), placing him at the fourth spot in the list of most raid points this season. He has the highest number of super raids (9), which depicts the impact he has been making. His power and agility have been a threat to defenders, as the attacker has shown a tendency to bulldoze his way through.

3. Ayan Lohchab (Patna Pirates)

Ayan Lohchab is another NYP, picked up by the Patna Pirates before PKL 11. He has done a brilliant job, playing second fiddle to Devank Dalal and reviving him when he is on the bench. His tally of 160 raid points (one spot below Ajit in the list of most raid points) in 21 matches, with seven Super 10s, is quite impressive.

The raider has used his height and speed to good effect, raiding well even when the opposition has four or five defenders on the mat. Ayan has also played a crucial role in defence, forming a strong chain with Shubham and Ankit, and providing assists.

2. Devank Dalal (Patna Pirates)

Devank

No one could have remotely predicted the future, when Devank Dalal was purchased at the PKL 11 auctions, as a category C raider at Rs. 20.10 lakhs. Fast forward to the present, and the 24-year-old from Rohtak sits at the top of the list of most raid points, with 270 raid points after 21 matches.

From seemingly having a problematic raiding unit before the start of the season, Devank and Ayan have now helped the Pirates form the most proflic offense in this season.

Devank has been in a league of his own, as he has 43 raid points more than Ashu Malik, at the second spot. He has seventeen Super 10s in these twenty-one matches, with most being ‘Super 10s’. He also has the second-highest number of super raids (8), showing that he can change any game with a snap of his fingers. Tall, quick, and powerful- Devank has all the qualities of an ideal raider.

1. Mohammadreza Shadloui (Haryana Steelers)

Mohammadreza Shadloui

No all-rounder has been as consistent in recent times as Mohammadreza Chiyaneh Shadloui. Steelers had picked the Iranian at Rs. 2.07 Cr. While he was the second-most expensive player at the auction, the impact he has produced is probably worth more than the entire purse of Rs. 5 Cr.

With 71 tackle points in 21 matches, he has been the best defender this season. With right corner Rahul Sethpal in form too, Haryana Steelers are at the top in the list of most team tackle points. With an aggressive intent and a vice-like grip, Shadloui has been a nightmare for every raider.

However, that is not all. The 24-year-old has put his hand up during tight situations and gone into raids. Especially, he has been effective in defenses with three or fewer men, making full use of the space available with his quick feet. With 52 raid points in his kitty this year, Shadloui has redefined the definition of an all-rounder.
