PKL 12: What could be Telugu Titans' auction strategy?

Telugu Titans have released multiple star players ahead of the auction.

Telugu Titans have taken big decisions ahead of the Pro Kabaddi League season 12 (PKL 12) auction. The men in yellow have released their skipper, Pawan Sehrawat, for the second straight year before the auction. They also let go of star all-rounder Vijay Malik. Both played an important role in the Titans’ better performance last season. Because of these two, the Titans’ record of coming last was broken.

Last season, they appointed Kabaddi veteran Krishan Kumar Hooda as their head coach, who built a strong team. But to everyone’s surprise, the Titans released all their top players ahead of the season 12 auction and retained their secondary players. The strategy behind releasing top players could be to get a large amount in the auction.

Titans should now build a strong team for the upcoming season. This season, under Hooda’s leadership, they can build a strong squad with many young players who will take the team forward. What are the things they would like to address? Here is their possible auction strategy for PKL 12:

Try to get their Skipper back

Pawan Sehrawat played a key role in helping the Telugu Titans pose a challenge to their opponents. Although they have released him, considering the pricing constraints, Pawan will be one of their primary targets in the auction.

The Indian captain marshalled the troops well to make them a threat in the league. Last season, the Titans almost made it to the playoffs, and this time they can bring back Pawan using FBM to make up for the unfinished business of last season.

The Indian skipper will be a hot property in the auction, and if the dynamics pan out differently, the Titans may not be able to get him back. It will be interesting to see if Krishna Kumar Hooda goes all-out for Naveen Kumar. Under him, Naveen became an unstoppable raider, and the Dronacharya Awardee would be happy to get him back.

Defence needs to be improved

A major reason for their poor performance last season was the ineffective performance of their defenders. Last year, not a single one of their defenders was in the top 25. They would want to add more reinforcements this season.

Although they have retained Sagar Sethpal and Ankit, who did a good job last season, they need a leader who can take the team forward. Hooda would want an experienced defender to control the proceedings on the mat.

They might want to get the consistent Surjeet Singh. They can also trust either Shubham Shinde or Yogesh Dahiya. Both of them performed brilliantly last season. Nitesh Kumar is another option who has a wealth of experience.
