PKL Season 9: Puneri Paltan retains Mohit Goyat
Goyat became the second player to be retained by the team. The auction schedule for the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) Season 9 has been announced. The organizer of the upcoming season, Mashal Sports, has said in a statement that the auction will be held on August 5 and 6 in Mumbai. After this announcement, the teams have started releasing the list of their retained players.
According to the organisers, 24 players from the top two teams of the Khelo India University Games, 2021 will be included in the auction pool to take part in this popular league. This will be done to increase the youth’s participation. A total of over 500 players are expected to participate in the auction.
The most important of the retained players till now is raider Mohit Goyat whom Puneri Paltan decided to keep for the upcoming season. The franchise had earlier decided to retain Aslam Inamdar first on July 21. As per the retention policy, each team can retain up to 6 players.
Mohit Goyat's performance in season 8
Mohit Goyat made his debut in the last PKL season itself and grabbed everyone's attention with his extraordinary raiding skills. Goyat amassed 187 points in 21 matches, including 159 raids and 28-point tackles, with 8 Super 10s and a High 5.
Last season Puneri Paltan's captain Nitin Tomar could not play some matches due to an injury caused during the first match and later his performance was not noteworthy, so the responsibility of the team's main raider fell on Mohit Goyat, which he successfully took over. Mohit Goyat and Aslam Inamdar did a great job together in the last PKL season.
Auction process
Domestic, Overseas and New Young Players (NYP) will be divided into four categories - A, B, C and D in the players' auction. All the players will be further divided into each category as 'All-rounders', 'Defenders' and 'Raiders'.
Base price for each category: Category A - Rs 30 lakh, Category B - Rs 20 lakh, Category C - Rs 10 lakh and Category D - Rs 6 lakh. The total salary purse available in his account for each franchisee for PKL season 9 is Rs 4.4 crores. At this time, the category for which Mohit Goyat has been retained remains unannounced.
