PKL: What happened last time Telugu Titans & Tamil Thalaivas met in opening encounter?

Neither Telugu Titans nor Tamil Thalaivas have won the PKL title yet.

The opening match of the Pro Kabaddi League across the previous 11 editions produced multiple action-packed contests. U Mumba faced Jaipur Pink Panthers in the PKL Season 1 opening match, while the last edition saw the Telugu Titans locking horns against the Bengaluru Bulls in Hyderabad.

The Telugu Titans and Tamil Thalaiavs last met in the opening match during the fifth edition of the Pro Kabaddi League at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad. On that note, let’s take a look at the outcome of the PKL Season 5 opening encounter when the Titans faced the Thalaivas:

What happened in the PKL Season 5 opener between Telugu Titans and Tamil Thalaivas?

Telugu Titans defeated Tamil Thalaivas 32-27 in the PKL Season 5 opening encounter, courtesy of raider Rahul Chaudhari‘s 10 raid points (8 touch points and 2 bonus points). He received support from Nilesh Salunke and Vishal Bhardwaj, who bagged 7 and 5 points, respectively.

Meanwhile, raider K Prapanjan was the top performer for Tamil Thalaivas with seven points, including five touch points and a couple of bonus points. Captain Ajay Thakur clinched six raid points, while defender C Arun earned four tackle points.

Talking about the match, the Telugu Titans had a great first half, with 18 points, including 13 raid points, three tackle points, and two All Out points. Meanwhile, the Thalaiavas could muster only 11 points in the first half.

The Chennai-based franchise was slightly better in the second half, earning 16 points compared to the Titans’ 14 points. However, their efforts weren’t enough as they fell short by five points. Both teams crashed out in the group stage after finishing fifth and sixth, respectively, in Group Zone B.

Telugu Titans to face Tamil Thalaivas in PKL 12 opener

The Telugu Titans will take on Tamil Thalaivas in the opening match of PKL 12, marking the second time both franchises will clash in the season opener across 12 editions of the PKL. The encounter is scheduled to take place at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Vizag on Friday, August 29.

The opening day of PKL 2025 will be a double header, with Bengaluru Bulls taking on Puneri Paltan in the second encounter of the day.
