PKL: Top five defenders with most tackle points in history
These defenders have proved their dominance over the seasons of Pro Kabaddi League.
The auctions for season 9 of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) was held last month. The tournament is scheduled to begin next month and all the franchises are busy preparing their talent pool and strategies for the upcoming tournament.
In the auction, everyone focused more on the raiders, raiding style, and raiding wing whereas without a strong defence unit, a team is never complete. Today we talk about the top 5 defenders who have scored most tackle points in PKL history.
5. Ravinder Pahal - 124 Matches, 339 Points
Pahal is also known as 'the hawk'. Ankle hold expert and arguably PKL's most important and strong right corner defender Ravinder Pahal is at the fourth position in terms of taking most tackle points in PKL history. He has played 120 matches so far in PKL and has 338 tackle points. Ravinder, who played for Gujarat Giants last season, has also achieved a total of 19 Super Tackles, 23 High-5 in his career. He has a tackle success rate of 45% in PKL. He will play for Telugu Titans this season. He has been part of the Bull, Dabang Delhi amongst other teams in earlier seasons of PKL.
4. Surjeet Singh 124 Matches, 345 Points
Surjeet is arguably the league's best right cover defender. He is at 5th position in terms of taking most tackle points in PKL history. He has played 114 matches so far in PKL and has 331 tackle points. Singh, who was the captain of Tamil Thalaivas last season, has also achieved a total of 22 Super Tackles, 29 High-5 in his career. He has a tackle success rate of 47% in PKL. He will play for Titans this season and is expected to form a lethal partnership with Ravinder Pahal. He has been part of Bengal Warriors and Puneri Paltan in the past.
3. Sandeep Narwal - 149 Matches, 348 Points
Sandeep Narwal, one of PKL's greatest all-rounders and defenders, is at the third position in terms of taking most tackle points in PKL history. He has played 149 matches so far in PKL and has 348 tackle points. Sandeep Narwal, who contributed a lot in making Dabang Delhi the champions last season, has also achieved a total of 29 Super Tackles, 17 High-5 in his career. He has a tackle success rate of 48% in PKL. Therefore it was surprising when Narwal went unsold in the auctions held last month. He too has represented Patna Pirates and U Mumba in the past.
2. Manjeet Chhillar - 132 Matches, 391 Points
Manjeet Chhillar, the most successful defender in PKL history, is the only player to have more than 375 tackle points to his name in the tournament. He scored 391 tackle points in 132 matches in his career. Manjeet has also achieved a total of 17 Super Tackles, 05 High-5s in his career. He has a tackle success rate of 50% in PKL. This season he will serve Telugu Titans as an assistant coach. He has represented Bengaluru Bulls, Dabang Delhi, Tamil Thailavas, Jaipur Pink Panthers and Puneri Paltan in PKL over the years.
1. Fazel Atrachali - 135 Matches, 400 Points
Fazel Atrachali, the most expensive foreign player in PKL history, is second in terms of taking the most tackle points in the league so far. He is also the only foreigner in the list of top 5 defenders. He has played 125 matches so far in PKL and has 368 tackle points. He was the highest tackle point scorer in Season 4 and Season 7. Fazel has also achieved a total of 23 Super Tackles, 23 High-5s in his career. His tackle success rate in PKL is 56%. This season he will play for Puneri Paltan. He has been part of U Mumba and Patna Pirates in the past.
