Asian Beach Kabaddi returns after 10 years.
The 6th edition of the Asian Beach Games will be held in Sanya, China, from April 22 to 30. The competition returns after a 10-year hiatus, as the previous edition was hosted by Vietnam in 2016.
One of the highlights of the multi-nation tournament is the Beach Kabaddi, which began on April 23rd. The men’s competition features eight teams, divided into two groups. India are grouped with Thailand, Chinese Taipei, and Sri Lanka in Group B.
The other group will see Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, and Syria. India started their campaign against Chinese Taipei. They will next face Thailand in the second game and finish off their league stage against Sri Lanka.
Both the Men’s and Women’s teams will be eyeing Gold
The Indian men’s team will be desperate to win back the gold medal after losing it to arch-rivals Pakistan in a closely fought final in 2016. On the other hand, their female counterparts will look to win the gold again against six other teams. The Indian women’s team are clubbed with Syria and Sri Lanka in a three-team group.
Group B will see Nepal, Bangladesh, Chinese Taipei and Thailand. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout rounds, followed by the semi-finals and final.
