Tamil Thalaivas release statement on allegations levelled by head coach Sanjeev Baliyan in PKL 12

Sanjeev Baliyan leveled serious allegations against the management of Tamil Thalaivas in PKL 12.

Tamil Thalaivas finished 10th in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 12 (PKL 12), failing to qualify for the top 8 after a series of disappointing performances. The team remained in the news due to several controversies.

Team captain Pawan Sehrawat was released just after the Vizag leg on disciplinary grounds, and following their last game, head coach Sanjeev Baliyan alleged that the team management didn’t give him the freedom to select the starting 7 and that unfit players were given chances over fit ones.

Tamil Thalaivas remained silent for a while, but have now released an official statement responding to Sanjeev Baliyan’s claims, posting it on Instagram and other social media handles.

Controversy with Pawan Sehrawat

Tamil Thalaivas bought Pawan Sehrawat in the auction and made him the captain for the season. But the team released him just before the Jaipur leg, due to disciplinary action and violation of the team’s code of conduct.

Pawan later posted on Instagram, denying all the allegations and demanding proof. He even stated that he would quit playing Kabaddi if the Thalaivas management could prove the allegations.

After the season concluded, he once again came forward and said that he hadn’t done anything indisciplined and that there might have been a lack of clear communication between the owners and the management.

Sanjeev Baliyan Allegations

After Thalaivas’ last league game, it was almost certain that they were out of the tournament. During the post-match press conference, head coach Sanjeev Baliyan and captain Arjun Deshwal addressed the media and made some shocking revelations.

They alleged that most of the team’s decisions were made by the analyst and that they had no freedom in selecting the starting 7. They also claimed that unfit players were given opportunities ahead of fit ones.

The press conference quickly went viral on social media, leaving fans stunned by the alleged internal issues within the Thalaivas management.

Team responds to the allegations

Tamil Thalaivas have now released an official statement addressing the allegations made by head coach Sanjeev Baliyan.

In their social media post, the team clarified that management has given full freedom to the head coach, including team selection, player retention, training, strategy, and all his requests have been fulfilled.

Management stated that they did not interfere in these decisions at any time. However, after the team’s performance fell short of expectations, a few players reportedly raised concerns about the coaching staff, citing a lack of attention and feedback. These concerns were brought to the coach’s notice and discussed internally.

The team further expressed disappointment that the coach, who did not attend press conferences for 16 games, chose to appear after the final match to make what they described as “unsubstantiated remarks.” The team called it a regretful end to a season that required accountability and reflection.

They concluded by acknowledging that the season did not meet expectations and confirmed that a comprehensive review process has begun to strengthen the team ahead of the next season.
