PKL 12: [Watch] Anupam Goswami opens up on Sanjeev Baliyan's allegations against Tamil Thalaivas management

Sanjeev Baliyan leveled serious allegations against the management of Tamil Thalaivas in PKL 12.

The league stage of Pro Kabaddi League Season 12 (PKL 12) is over, and the knockout rounds are about to begin, with eight teams still competing for the trophy. Before the Play-ins started, a press conference was held featuring all the team captains, and PKL Chairman Anupam Goswami also addressed the media.

He spoke on various topics, one of which was the recent controversy involving the Tamil Thalaivas management, their captain Arjun Deshwal, and head coach Sanjeev Baliyan.

After their last match, Sanjeev Baliyan and Arjun addressed the media in the post-match press conference and revealed that they did not have the authority to select the starting seven players, claiming that unfit players were being given chances ahead of fit ones.

These statements immediately went viral on social media. On that note, let’s see what the PKL Chairman himself said about the ongoing controversy.

On the controversy

PKL Chairman Anupam Goswami was asked about the ongoing controversy and the statement made by Tamil Thalaivas head coach Sanjeev Baliyan in the press conference. He responded,

“I think controversies are not necessarily bad. In all sports and leagues, you’ve seen much bigger personalities go through similar situations. A league is an economic system linked to the game, and if that arrangement and the league function according to norms and regulations, the sport and everyone associated with it benefit.”

“Sanjeev is one of the big personalities in kabaddi, and he himself would be the first to admit that he has benefited from the league. Many players would acknowledge that the league has helped them as well,” he added.

On the league’s involvement in this matter

Anupam Goswami further added, “There is also a bilateral contract between a team and a coach or player, and it has its own sanctity. But as a league, the teams, coaches, and players are all important stakeholders for us.. So the first thing we will ensure is that both sides stay true to their contracts, and then we will provide whatever counselling or guidance is needed.”

“In India, sports leagues are still in their early stages. We will evolve, and our stakeholders will evolve too. These kinds of episodes are inevitable, but how maturely we handle them will define the strength and credibility of the league.”
