National Games 2023 November 2nd Results: Srihari Nataraj, Nina Venkatesh create new meet records

Nina Venkatesh of Karnataka secured her fourth gold medal at the Games by winning the Women’s 50M Butterfly, setting a new Games record. In the swimming competition of the National Games 2023, Virdhawal Khade also added to his achievements by winning the Men’s 50M Butterfly.
Nina completed the race in 27.70 seconds to claim the gold, with Manavi Varma of Karnataka (27.90 seconds) and Rutuja Khade of Maharashtra (28.38 seconds) taking the silver and bronze, respectively. Virdhawal, who had already won the 50m freestyle, achieved another victory, setting a new Games record with a time of 24.60 seconds. He outpaced his state mate Mihir Ambre (24.67 seconds) and Kerala’s Sajan Prakash (24.78 seconds).
In the Men’s 100 M Backstroke event, Srihari Nataraj of Karnataka emerged victorious, establishing a new Games record of 55.59 seconds. Rishabh Das of Maharashtra (57.37 seconds) secured the silver, while Karnataka’s Siva Sridhar claimed the bronze with a timing of 57.41 seconds.
In the Women’s 100 M Backstroke, Maharashtra’s Palk Joshi clinched the gold, completing the race in 1:05.29 seconds. Goa’s Sanjana Prabhugaonker took the silver (1:05.73 seconds), and Ridhima Veerendra Kumar of Karnataka won the bronze (1:05.86 seconds).
With 60 gold, 48 silver, and 53 bronze medals, Maharashtra leads the standings, maintaining a substantial lead over defending champions Services Sports Control Board (SSCB), who now have 37 gold medals along with 13 silver and bronze each. Haryana is currently third with a total of 85 medals, including 31 gold.

In Wrestling, Haryana won three of the six gold medals awarded at the Campal Sports Village, with SSCB, Chandigarh, and Madhya Pradesh securing the other three.
At the Athletics Stadium, Arun AB of Services set a new men’s triple jump record with a gold medal performance of 16.79 meters, surpassing Praveen Chithravel’s 16.68 meters record from last year in Gujarat.
Srabani Nanda of Odisha and Abhin B. Devadiga of Karnataka clinched gold medals in the 200 M women’s and men’s sprints, respectively. Srabani (23.69 seconds) narrowly defeated Punjab’s Kamaljeet Kaur (23.84 seconds) and the favorite Jyoti Yarraji of Andhra Pradesh (23.95 seconds) to claim gold.
In the men’s category, Karnataka’s Abhin finished in 20.89 seconds to win gold, while his state mate, K.V Shashikanth, secured silver (20.97 seconds), and Odisha’s Animesh Kujur took the bronze (20.99 seconds).
Chanda K.M of Delhi won gold in the Women’s 800 M, adding to the silver she won in the 1500 M. She completed the two-lap race in a time of 2:01.74 seconds, ahead of Maharashtra’s Yamuna Ladkat and Haryana’s Pooja.
In table tennis, Anirban Ghosh of West Bengal and Archana Kamath of Karnataka clinched gold in the men’s and women’s singles, while Maharashtra added two gold medals in mixed and women’s doubles at the Campal Multipurpose Indoor Stadium. Ghosh defeated Yashansh Malik of Delhi in the men’s singles final, and Archana triumphed over Maharashtra’s Diya Chitale in the women’s singles.
In the Cycling competitions held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi, Indian internationals secured all six gold medals. Meenakshi of Haryana won two gold medals in the 15 Km Scratch and 3 KM Individual Pursuit races. Naman Kapil of Punjab claimed the gold in the 15 Km Scratch Race, while Meenakshi of Haryana won the 10 Km Scratch Race.
David Beckham of Andaman & Nicobar Islands outperformed his national team compatriots Rojit Singh and Venkappa Kengalagutti to win the gold in the 1000 M Individual Time Trial, marking the union territory’s first medal of the games. In the Women’s 500 M Individual Time Trial, Delhi’s Triyasha Paul secured the gold.
