Indo-Australian duo went down to Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury in the finals
Indian tennis star Rohan Bopanna, along with his partner Matthew Ebden, made a strong start to the 2024 season with a runner-up finish at the Adelaide International 2024 in Australia. The Indo-Australian duo despite losing a closely contested final to third seeds Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury with a score of 5-7, 7-5, 9-11 played well throughout the tournament.
Interestingly, this is not the first time Bopanna and Ebden have faced Ram and Salisbury. The same opponents had previously defeated them in the US Open men’s doubles final last year, adding an extra layer of intensity to their encounter at Adelaide.
The journey of Bopanna and Ebden in the tournament was nothing short of impressive. They were handed a walkover in their first-round match against France’s Albano Olivetti and Sweden’s Andre Goransson, which led them straight into the quarter-finals.
In the quarter-final stage, they faced the South American team of Colombian Nicolas Barrientos and Brazil’s Rafael Matos. The Indo-Australian pair emerged victorious with a score of 6-2, 6-7(4), 10-7, demonstrating their resilience and determination.
Their winning streak continued in the semi-finals, where they defeated Gonzalo Escobar of Ecuador and Aleksandr Nedovyesov with a straight-set victory of 6-4, 6-4, securing their place in the final.

Bopanna, who has reached a career-high equalling world No 3 rank, had a solid 2023 season. At the age of 43, the veteran player is the only active Grand Slam winner from India left on tour after the retirement of Sania Mirza last season. His performance at Adelaide International is a testament to his enduring skill and passion for the sport.
Despite the loss in the final, the journey of Bopanna and Ebden in the tournament has been commendable. Their performance has set a high bar for the rest of the 2024 season, and fans around the world will be eagerly looking forward to their future matches.
As we move further into the 2024 season, all eyes will be on players like Bopanna and Ebden, who continue to make their mark in the world of tennis.
