National Games 2022: Rosy Meena breaks NR in women's pole vault

Day three saw some exciting results in the track and field events.

Jeswin Aldrin from Tamil Nadu won the gold medal in the Long Jump event with a mark of 8.26m at the National Games. Along with the gold medal, he has also breached the qualification mark for the World Athletics Championships to be held next year (2023). the qualification mark for Long Jump at the Worlds is set at 8.25m. With this three Indians to date have met the qualification mark for the World Championships.

Jeswin Aldrin has been in great form post the poor showing at the World Championships in July. In the month of August and September, he went for an exposure training cum competition tour to Europe. Jeswin stood 4th at Continental Tour silver meet in Lurzen with a jump of 7.90m. In the next event at the Golden Fly series, he leapt a distance of 8.12m and stood 1st. A gradual improvement in performance could be seen post-July.

Murali Shreeshankar took the silver medal at 7.93m and Anees Yahiya took the bronze at 7.92m at National Games.

Women's Pole Vault

Tamil Nadu dominated the podium winning the gold, silver, and bronze. Rosy Meena Paulraj took the gold with a distance of 4.20m breaking the National Record after 8 years. Surekha was the previous female athlete to hold the record at 4.15m. Rosy broke the National Record not once but twice showing full dominance.

Pavitra Vengatesh took silver with a distance of 4.00m with Baranica Elangovan taking bronze at 3.90m.

Men's Decathlon

Usaid Khan from Uttar Pradesh was the stand out after day 1 scoring 3711 points and leading the players' tally. He broke his Personal best in three events out of five contested at National Games. Getting to 7000 points shall be a good achievement for the 21-year-old after crossing that mark before this year.

Shot Put

Tajinder Pal Singh after a poor season took the gold medal for Services at 20.75m. He consistently threw the 20+ m mark thrice showing signs of coming back to his best.
