Maharashtra continues to lead the medal tally with a huge lead over second placed and defending champions Services.
The National Games 2023 is in full swing across five vibrant Goan cities: Mapusa, Margao, Panjim, Ponda, and Vasco. It’s a celebration of India’s own multi-sport event, inspired by the Olympics, and has been witnessing some incredible performances from athletes all over the country.
As of November 4 (Day 9), Maharashtra leads the medal tally with a remarkable total of 182 medals, comprising 64 gold, 59 silver, and 59 bronze. The defending champions, Services Sport Control Board, currently hold the second position with 99 medals, out of which 51 are gold. Haryana has maintained its third position in the medal tally, accumulating a total of 121 medals, including 45 gold medals.
However, the spotlight of the day falls on the remarkable achievements of the athletes in the aquatic competitions. Fourteen-year-old Dhinidhi Desinghu from Karnataka made history by becoming the youngest female swimmer to win seven gold medals in a single National Games. Her dedication and exceptional talent have left a lasting impression on the spectators and her fellow competitors.
The competition was fierce, with Dhinidhi locked in a neck-and-neck battle with her teammate Nina Venkatesh, both having won five gold medals each. With two more events to go, it was the young prodigy who seized the gold in the 100 M freestyle, setting a new National Games record in the process.
Looking forward to tomorrow’s action in the 37th National Games 2023, the spotlight falls on the intense battles in Kabaddi, where top teams like Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, as well as Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh, are set to face off. Additionally, the field hockey competition is heating up, with teams like Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Karnataka displaying their skills
