The Red and Gold are yet to concede a goal this season.

East Bengal FC took on Tollygunge Agragami in the 5th round of fixtures in the Calcutta Football League at the East Bengal ground today. The Red and Gold Brigade emerged as 3-0 winners and currently sit in top on the table.

The home team started brightly and never let their foot off the accelerator. After the opening few minutes, Tollygunge barely managed to get hold of the ball. Despite having the likes of Daniel Bidami and Kamo in the squad, Tollygunge made a poor case for themselves and showed why they are yet to score a goal or win a game so far in the league.

A defence-splitting long ball from East Bengal defender Mehtab Singh set up Brandon Lalrendimika to score the opener. The diminutive full-back made a darting run into the box and smashed the ball into the top corner from a stunning volley.

After taking the lead, the Red and Gold Brigade settled into the game as the visiting side slowly disappeared from it. Kamalpreet Singh and Mahmoud Al Amna bossed the midfield, with the East Bengal right side relentlessly attacking Tollygunge's left flank.

A brace for striker Jobby Justin soon followed, with both of them coming from crosses down the right wing. Captain Samad Ali Mallick was inspirational for the Red and Golds, repeatedly drawing defenders out with his overlapping runs. At halftime, the score read 3-0 in favour of the home team.

The second half continued in the same vein. The home side dominated possession, except for a brief spell of 10 minutes or so when Tallygunge threatened in spells. Amna and Kassim Aidera resumed normal service soon after, completely hogging the ball and setting up chance after chance. However, none of them came to fruition due to a combination of bad finishing and good goalkeeping from Agragami goalie Shubham Singh.

Jobby Justin, Brandon, Laldanmaiwa and Aidera himself all missed chances that should have been scored. On a number of occasions, the ball hit the side netting while on the other instances, it just flew over the bar or the final pass was poor. All in all, for the majority of the second half, Agragami was stuck chasing the ball in their own half. They were lucky not to concede any more goals and now have gone 5 games without a point and having conceded a total of 9 goals.

East Bengal, on the other hand, are not only atop the league table and have great momentum with them but are yet to concede a goal in this season's league. They look strong, smart and all set to win their ninth Calcutta League Trophy in a row.
