Report: AIFF in hunt for female foreign coach ahead of FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup
The apex body is trying to rope in a big name to take charge of the girls at the mega event.
The AIFF are hoping to get a reputed female coach from abroad to lead the team at the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup 2020, according to a report in the Times of India.
This is the country's second international event which they are hosting in the last three years, following on from the men's variant of the same tournament.
Currently, the team is working under the watch of former India striker Alex Ambrose. He is presently training the 35 probables for the tournament in Goa on a non-permanent commitment.
However, AIFF wants a female coach to lead the girls in the tournament next year. They are hopeful that they can land a candidate, latest by next month.
“We have kick-started the process (of hiring a coach) with the release of advertisements. I am sure we will get a worthy candidate,” said Abhishek Yadav, director, national teams.
Apart from a foreign coach, the apex body are also searching for a goalkeeping coach and a fitness coach. They have placed advertisements for these positions; the deadline for applications is the 25th of August.

But, if we find someone with a very good profile, we might choose him. The other two positions (fitness and goalkeeping) will depend on the applications we receive,” said Yadav.
The advertisement stated that the applicants must have had at least eight years of experience in coaching teams and should have held diverse positions in coaching professional football in different formats.
