The North Goan registered their second win in the league.

Calangute Association registered an easy 2-0 win over Guardian Angel Sports Club in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium earlier today. Mohammed Shashad and Runal Shirodkar scored in the second half to notch all three points for the Beachside.

Calangute who were drubbed by Salgaocar in the last match had two changes to their side as Rup Dad and Akash Sanadi made into the cut for the Beachside. On the other hand, Angels also had a similar number of changes following a draw against Corps of Signals in the last match as Clinton Niasso and keeper Jeet Gupta found their names in the starting XI for the Curchorem based club.

The match was restricted to the midfield play for the first quarter which ended with a swift attack from the host as Akash made a superb cross to Diptesh in the box but the striker failed to put power in his header as Angels keeper Gupta easily collected the same.

A few minutes before this, Angels also had a chance from the corner as a well-taken corner by Clinton was brilliantly headed by Micky Vaz but Calangute keeper Savio Paes blocked it, whereas, Calangute defence timely cleared the free ball to keep their side safe.

Calangute had two more opportunities after the half-hour mark as first, Dominic Fernandes curled the ball to onrushing striker Diptesh in the box but the forward’s diving header was acrobatically pushed for a corner by Angels custodian Gupta. A few minutes later, they came with another swift attack as this time their winger Sachidanand Satelkar made a darting run on the left flank and fired a sparkling shot from inside the box but his strike missed the target by few inches.

At the other end, the Beachside took the lead as their striker Shashad easily cut past two defenders and shot from inside the box which deflected off the Angels defender James Fernandes and beat the onrushing keeper Gupta in the goal.

Energized by a goal, Calangute came with a series of attacks as first, Shashad found Sachidanand with a square pass from inside the box but the midfielder failed to connect from the point-blank range. A few minutes later, Sachidanand wasted another easy chance as this time he was set up with just keeper to beat by Rohan Pedenekar with a fine cross but the shot on onrushing Angels keeper instead of directing in the empty goal.

However, in the 75th minutes, substitute midfielder Runal Shirodkar doubled the lead for the Beachside when a Dominic’s perfect through pass was clinically finished at the far post by him to make it 2-0 for Calangute.
