The match started with possession-based football from both the sides, but none of them could create goalscoring chances.

Calangute midfielder Rohan Pednekar wasted a golden opportunity in the dying minutes as they were held to a goalless draw by Panjim Footballers in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium earlier in the thundering evening.

Vallmiky Miranda who replaced Gopi Gad was the only change for the Capital City side in the starting XI, who put up a brilliant performance in the last match to hold FC Goa in the last match. Whereas, Calangute newly appointed coach Agostinho Dias made two changes following their narrow defeat at the hands of Vasco SC in the last match as U-20 midfielder Akash Sanadi and forward Sanket Jotkar found their place in the playing XI.

The match started with possession-based football from both the sides where Calangute were the more potent side in the first 30 minutes. However, they managed to break the Panjim defence only once when Dominic Fernandes set up Sanket with a brilliant through pass into the box but Panjim keeper came off the line with a block to rescue his side in the 28th minute.

Panjim managed to come close to scoring only in the last five minutes of the first session as first, Chandan Gawas found Daryl Costa in the box but Calangute skipper and defender Nicolau Colaco cleared it before the striker could do any damage.

Panjim had another chance in the very next minutes as Chandan curled the ball in the box where Calangute keeper Savio Paes stretched to his limit to clear the danger, however, ball landed in the Vallmicky’s feet who went for the glory from outside the box but his strike went over the crossbar.

On crossing over, Calangute should have taken the lead in the 49th minutes when a corner by Dominic was tipped by Panjim keeper Sherwin Da Cunha which was again sent in the box by Jason Lucas with a floater to Sanket who tried his luck with an overhead kick only to see it blocked by the Panjim custodian.

The Beachside continued to dominate with a continues attacks on the opponents, however, their strikes became sharper only in the last ten minutes as first, Dominic tried to find Sachidanand Satelkar in the goalmouth with a curling cross from the right but Panjim keeper Sherwin made a diving effort to clear the danger.

They had the best chance of the match in the very next minutes when Sachidanand made a fine cross to Rohan Pednekar in the box where Panjim last line completely failed to clear the danger but the Calangute midfielder helped the opponents with an aimless shot from the goalmouth.

Calangute had one more chance before the fulltime whistle when Sachidanand came with another curler but this time Rohan headed in the safe hands of Panjim shot-stopper Sherwin as the match ended in a goalless draw.
