Late goals sink Vasco against Dempo in Goa Pro League
Joaquim Abranches played an influential role in Golden Eagles' victory.
Two second-half goals from Jessel Carneiro and Been D’Mello helped Dempo Sports Club to register a 2-0 win over Vasco Sports Club in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Vasco who faced a defeat against Sporting Clube de Goa in the last match had few changes as the Port Towners' head coach Micky Fernandes brought in Shubham Malwankar, Anil Gaonkar, Inacio Colaco and Minesh Kunkolkar in the lineup. Meanwhile, Dempo coach Samir Naik made only one change to his side following a draw against Churchill Brothers in the previous round match as Edwin Viegas made the first start of the season for the Golden Eagles.
The first session was equally contested by both teams as Dempo striker Joaquim Abranches fired a powerful shot from inside the box but Vasco keeper Sanju Thapa blocked the danger.
At the other end, Vasco winger Anil made a brilliant footwork to cut past opponents in the box but failed to put power in his shot from inside as Dempo custodian Tyson Caiado easily collected his weak shot.
Dempo had the best chance to take the lead in the dying minutes of the first half when Kirtikesh Gadekar sent a neat freekick in the box but Jaison Vaz, Edwin and Abranches completely failed to capitalise on easy chance.

However, in the very next minutes, Jessel put the Golden Eagles into the lead as his powerful shot from outside the box gave no chance to Vasco keeper Thapa making it 1-0 for the Panjim based club.
