With this draw, Calangute have 19 points from 16 matches, while Bardez have 16 points from the same number of games.
FC Bardez earned a point after straight six defeats as they held Calangute Association to a goalless draw in the Bardez derby match of the Goa Professional League, played at Duler Stadium, earlier today.
Bardez who lost to Guardian Angel SC in the last match had many changes to their side as Ronil Azavedo, Viraj Naik, Inacio Colcao, Joywin Carneiro, Sherman Vaz and Denstan Fernandes found their names in the starting XI, while Calangute coach Alex Alvares also made few changes following their loss to Dempo SC in the last match as Amar Halankar was back in the playing XI, while he also gave the start to Yamnursab Pinjar.
The match was restricted to midfield play for the first 15 minutes where both the teams tried to keep the ball which ended with a swift attack from Bardez when Ronil brilliantly cut past a Calangute defender Kouame Joseph and released it to Clinton Niasso who had just keeper to beat but the forward shot wide from inside the box.
At the other end, Calangute also came close to scoring when Josley Dias made a superb run on the right wing and tried to find his teammate Blake Haldankar but Bardez keeper David Chauhan collected it before the striker could reach to it.
Another chance came into Calangute’s way in the closing stage of the first session when a well-taken corner from Joston Pereira was headed towards the goal by Kouame only to see it denied by the woodwork.
On crossing over, Bardez had the best chance at the hour mark when Shubham Rao Desai cut past a defender to enter the box and send it to Ronil at the far post but the striker saw his tap was timely cleared by Bersal Viegas off the goal line to keep his side safe.
Ten minutes later, Calangute came with a golden opportunity when Bersal found Josley in the box but the winger shot wide instead of placing it in the empty goal. Three minutes later, Bardez keeper came with a triple save when he first block Joston’s shot from close off Bonny Niasso’s cross, the ball rolled to substitute Jayesh Chopdeker who tried his luck from close but the custodian dived to his right to block him, while the last shot came from Joston again but this time Bardez shot stopper brilliantly collected to the ball to kill the dangerous move.
The last few minutes of the play saw both the teams cancelling each other on many occasions as the match ended in a goalless draw.
