Liston Colaco, Yasir Mohammad and Aaren D’Silva scored for the Junior Gaurs.

FC Goa registered a comfortable 3-0 win over Dempo Sports Club in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium earlier today.

Dempo had defeated Goans in their previous meet by four goals, while they had eased past Vasco 2-0 in the last match. Goans, on the other hand, suffered consecutive two defeats at the hands of Salgaocar FC and Sporting Clube de Goa in their last two matches.

Goan started without their four regulars, Meldon D’Silva, Hayden Fernandes, Kingslee Fernandes and Brian Faria who were suspended due to double bookings in the previous matches. Another starter Jonathan Cardozo also missed the match, where Aaren D’Silva, Saviour Gama, Jason Barbosa made the comeback in the matchday squad, while Veegan Ferrao and Rinjoy Fernandes made their first start for the Goan. Whereas, Mario Mascarenhas replaced Nickson Castanha who also missed the match due to suspension in Dempo’s starting XI.

Dempo were the first to look at the goal when their winger Yogesh Kadam dribbled past a defender and tried his luck from just inside the box but went just over the crossbar. A minute later, Goan Liston Colaco made a cut-back to onrushing Aaren whose powerful shot was brilliantly saved by Dempo keeper Agnelo Gomes.

Though Dempo dominated the first few minutes of the match, it was Goan who opened their tally in the 6th minutes when Liston converted the penalty after he was brought down in the box by Dempo defender Mario.

A few minutes later, Dempo had the best chance to equalise when Mario nicely curled the ball to Nestor Dias in the box but the midfielder shot wide from close. At the other end, Liston was unlucky not to take his side into the lead as his sparkling shot from the edge of the box rebounded off the crossbar.

At the half-hour mark, Dempo gaffer Samir Naik brought in Suraj Hadkonkar to replace injured Yogesh Kadam but the winger who had a brilliant match against Vasco was out of his colour.

Goan started the second session on attacking note as they came twice close to scoring in the first few minutes but on both the occasions Dempo defence line cleared the danger.

However, in the 55th minutes, Yasir Moahammad sparkling shot from the top of the box entered the bottom corner making it 2-0 for the junior Gaurs.

Two minutes later, Aaren once again brought the fans on their feet when he made a diving effort to tap the ball home from close to Veegan’s low cross for Goan’s third goal of the match.

Sporting Clube de Goa lead the table after Round 13.

The later part of the match witnessed the Golden Eagles trying hard to get back into the match but Goan defence led by Lalnunsiama along with Jason and Rinjoy made the brilliant job to keep the rival at bay till the full-time whistle.

Today’s win helped Goan to climb to the 5th position with 14 points from 10 matches, while the Golden Eagles remained at the 2nd place with 24 points from 11 outings.
