Indian Player Ratings: Rohit hits mark as Balwant fades after early goal
(Courtesy : ISL)
An Indian international might have scored but there were others too who caught the eye.
It was the first Maharashtra Derby of the season in the Indian Super League where last season’s table-toppers Mumbai City took on a revitalised FC Pune City team. Some Indian players did show signs of intent and desire to get maximum points, whereas some others were completely invisible on the pitch for at least one entire half.
Here is the list of the Indian players who played in the Maharashtra Derby and how they performed on the night.
FC Pune City
Kamaljit Singh- 6/10
Pulled off a fine save in the first few minutes, but had no answer to a beautiful shot from Balwant Singh minutes later. Kamaljit Singh had some routine clearances and could have done better in keeping the ball away when Gerson Vieira’s shot hit the post. It was a decent game for the shot-stopper.
Gurtej Singh- 6/10
Kept the Mumbai forwards at bay and did not let Everton Santos get past him for most of the match. Marked his men excellently. Gurtej was a silent warrior in this match

Baljit Sahni- 3/10
Was Baljit there on the field? Oh yes, he was, in case you did not notice. His first contribution came after 30 minutes, With a crisp through ball to Marcos Tebar. He made some successful clearances in the game but did not have a telling impact as such.
Rohit Kumar- 8/10
Extremely good display in the midfield and Rohit deserves to get the highest rating. His passing was exquisite, so was his timing of interceptions and tackles. He was the Tiemoue Bakayoko of Pune through and through. He had a clear chance at goal at the end of the first half but a needless dribble cost him his opportunity. His initial pass was the reason Diego Carlos could get into the box and eventually earned a penalty.
Lalchhuanmawia Fanai- 6/10
Fanai had some good sprints down his flank but his tackles were not on point. However, he kept on making sprints down the flank throughout the game. That said, his crosses could have been way better given the quality he has.
Isaac Vanmalsawma- 4/10
Isaac had a quiet game as per his standards. He had some good crossing opportunities but was not impactful. He could not keep pace with his counterpart before eventually getting substituted by Jonatan Lucca.
Substitutes
Kean Lewis- 6/10
The Mumbai man came on for Tebar and showed why he is the perfect man to play on the left wing. He showed some supreme dribbling skills but risked running a lot due to his recovery from injury.

Mumbai City FC
Amrinder Singh- 9/10
Amrinder Singh brilliant save
Amrinder was the man that deserves the highest rating. Made some extremely good saves, including a fine save to deny Pune the equaliser in the first half. Additionally, made some great clearances from free-kicks at the end of the first half. Pune kept on testing Amrinder through free-kicks and corners but he kept Mumbai in the hunt.
Raju Gaikwad- 5/10
Gaikwad had a decent game with his free-kick-like throws but had many lapses while defending his flank. His challenge in the box led to the penalty from which Pune equalized.
Sanju Pradhan- 5/10
The young Indian had some fine spells during the game but wasn’t quite as impactful as he was against Goa. He did not create many chances, but kept the Pune midfielders and forwards at bay for some time in the first half.
Balwant Singh- 6.5/10
Watch: Balwant goal Vs FC Pune City
Scored a superb goal to open the scoreline in the 14th minute. But, kept on asking for medical help and wasn’t able to contribute much after that.
Sehnaj Singh- 4/10
Sehnaj played a decent game throughout the 90 minutes but a concentration lapse from him led to the winner for Pune.
Abhinas Ruidas- 7/10
Abhinas was very busy guarding his flank. Made crucial tackles and intercepted crosses quite well. The youngster did not let any Pune winger or wing-back get past him in the first half but did not perform up to the mark in the second. It looked like he aimed to preserve his energy in a game where you’re supposed to give it all to get bragging rights in the derby.

Disappointing. That’s it. No marking, no timing in tackles. Needs to start games since he’s got plenty of experience playing as a defender. A player of Wadoo’s calibre deserves to get a start. If he starts games than we might see a different player.
