Manas P. Kashyap

Robin Gurung was another player who had a good outing.

It was a battle bravely fought at Guwahati, as NorthEast United managed to hold visitors Jamshedpur FC to a 1-1 stalemate, despite playing with 10-men throughout the second half on their home turf.

Both sides took some time to settle into the game and began cautiously. The hosts broke the deadlock in the 20th minute, thanks to some clever work by striker Bartholomew Ogbeche, beating the likes of Tiri and Pratik. A silly physical challenge by Mislav Komorski saw him sent off right before the break. Jamshedpur smelt blood as NEUFC were a man down and made full use of the opportunity, as Farukh Chowdhury scored the leveller just after the interval.

Highlanders gaffer Eelco Schattorie made some smart decisions and some bold moves, as his team held on to the 1-1 scoreline until the final whistle. In this article, we will analyze the performances of the Indian players on the pitch.

NorthEast United

Pawan Kumar - 6.5

Watch: The NEUFC shot-stopper made an amazing double save

Very athletic on the pitch. Displayed a safe pair of hands when the NorthEast defence was facing the heat of opposition attacks. Couldn’t do much to save that early second half equalizer.

Reagan Singh - 5.5

Started off on a bright note. Made some brilliant tackles and clearances putting his body on the line. However, his inability to see off the ball early in the second-half, opened up the defence for a Jamshedur equalizer. Was taken off in the 53rd-minute.

Rowllin Borges - 6.0

Inconsistency has defined this man of late. The experienced India international yet again put in an average show on the pitch. He was a bit sloppy with his passing throughout the match. Poor coordination meant he was stolen of possession at times. Also went into the referee’s book due to his indiscipline.

Robert Lalthlamuana - 6.0

Put in an average show. Evaded off dangerous runs from Farukh Choudhary early on. However, found it tough to contain the Jamshedpur midfield. Ably contributed to the defence in soaking up the pressure, as his 10-men side held the visitors to a draw.

Redeem Tlang - 6.0

Watch: Tlang had a good effort saved by Jamshedpur's goalkeeper

He was lively on the pitch. Added more teeth to the NorthEast attack. Also contributed equally to the defence, making some vital interceptions and clearances. Had to be stretchered off with cramps in the 72nd minute.

Nikhil Kadam - 6.0

Put in a fine effort. His link-up play with Federico Gallego and Ogbeche provided NEUFC with the much-needed breakthrough in the 20th minute. A red card for Mislav Komorski at the end of first half meant Kadam had to be sacrificed for a centre-back in Gurwinder Singh.

Substitutes:

Provat Lakra - 5.0

He came on for Reagan Singh. Didn’t have much to do apart from containing the Jamshedpur attack and soaking up the pressure.

Gurwinder Singh - 5.5

A tactical substitution to put more bodies in the defence brought Singh on right at the start of the second half. Produced some no-nonsense clearances making his presence felt physically.

Lalthathanga Khawlhring - 5.5

Replaced Redeem Tlang in the 72nd minute. Supported the team down the left flank and made good use of his skills to move the ball forward.

Jamshedpur FC

Subrata Paul - 6.0

Didn’t have much to do, with a strong centre-back pair covering him up. However, his reflexes weren’t good enough to prevent NEUFC from breaking the deadlock.

Pratik Chowdhary - 5.5

Very impressive with his defensive responsibilities. Being on the pitch for the first 46 minutes, he was very calm and composed with his challenges, making four vital tackles and interceptions each during the period.

Farukh Choudhary - 7.0

Watch: Farukh received the Man of the Match award

One of the liveliest and active players on the pitch, Farukh was full of energy. Plying his trade on the right flank, his clever intrusion into the box paid off at the start of the second half, when a Pablo Morgado cross found his feet and he blasted the ball into the net.

Sumeet Passi - 5.5

Couldn’t make the most of his big opportunity. Playing as the lone striker in the team ahead of Tim Cahill, Passi wasnt utilized to his potential and remained in the shadows for most of the game.

Robin Gurung - 7.5

Sweated it out putting in a full shift. The right-back ticked all the boxes and raked up the numbers in his favour in the game. He clocked 83% passing accuracy and contributed four tackles, four clearances and three blocks.

Dhanachandra Singh - 7.0

Much like his team mate on the other flank, Dhana was equally on the money when it came to contributing to the Jamshedpur defence. With 78% passing accuracy, he was among the best Indians on the pitch.

Michael Soosairaj - 6.0
