The full-back has put pen to paper on a new three-year deal with the Gaurs.
Full-back Seriton Fernandes has signed a contract extension with FC Goa after a successful season. The contract extends his stay for three more seasons viz. until the summer of 2022. The right-back becomes the third player to put pen to the extension paper for FC Goa, with Hugo Boumous and Carlos Pena already extending their stay for three and one seasons respectively.
Seriton Fernandes was picked up in the 7th round pick in the 2017 ISL Players Draft after a successful season with Churchill Brothers on an individual level. The Dempo youth product didn't take long enough to be the part of the starting eleven of the Gaurs under the Spanish coach Sergio Lobera.
The 26-year-old has enjoyed two hugely successful seasons with the Gaurs, reaching the playoffs of the Indian Super League both the times and progressing till the semi-finals of the Hero Super Cup. The 2018-19 season saw the player lift his first trophy with the Gaurs after they beat Chennaiyin FC in the finals of the Hero Super Cup.
The Goan team has impressed everyone with their attacking game and are one of the best teams in the country at the moment. Seriton, individually as well, had a very successful season.
The 26-year-old is adept with the ball control and passing game and was amongst the best passers of the Indian Super League season with 851 passes to his name. He has been a help for his side both while going forward and while defending.
He has contributed two assists in the league while has been the fifth best tackler of the league with 88 tackles with only Ahmed Jahouh eclipsing his tackling numbers for his side.
A Goan lad, Seriton has the opportunity to represent his homeside for three more seasons, and the former Churchill Brothers defender cannot be anymore happier.
"Goa is home for me. Playing for the people and wearing the crest is something I really take pride in. To have the opportunity to play for the club is every Goan boy's dream. And now to have the chance to extend my stay here was something I couldn't say no to," stated Seriton.
