While Mourinho has always had a frenzied relationship with the media, the failure to deliver the goods at Chelsea and United saw it being transformed to toxic levels where he often had dressing rooms' with the cold wars and sometimes even the management and was often controversial with his views and opinions in press conferences as well. Under Mourinho, United’s style of play also came into attack by various experts and professionals who accused the 56-year-old of betraying th club’s principles.

However, all things considered, Jose Mourinho still has plenty of interest from various sides all over Europe. He was also in contention for returning to Real Madrid to stabilise the ship before Zinedine Zidane was officially announced.

Premier League outfit Everton have reportedly emerged as forerunners in the Jose interest. Billionaire owner Farhad Moshiri has huge plans for the club beset with lofty goals and he is willing to hand the chequebook to Mourinho to consolidate Everton among the top six. Everton also have plans for a new stadium and landing Mourinho as the man to lead them from mid-table to the top half of the Premier League would be a statement of intent.

There are plenty of French clubs who also have recruiting Jose Mourinho on their agendas. For a while, there were ripe reports that Paris Saint Germain was interested in his services. However, that affection for Mourinho has dwindled recently especially after current manager Thomas Tuchel was renewed for another year.

"We can only respect Mourinho," he told reporters.

He further added, "He's a coach who has won everywhere he's been. He is maybe not the one I identify with personality wise, but I respect him a lot regarding his records and achievements in football. He's won everything. Everywhere he's been he's won a trophy. He's won Champions Leagues. Obviously, he's a great coach, so, if he succeeds me it would be an honour."
