The Arsenal gaffer reveals that the Frenchman preferred Los Blancos before joining Les Parisiens.
Kylian Mbappe is the most wanted man in the world of football. Thanks to his comments regarding the "new project" he mentioned while receiving Ligue 1 Player of the Year award. And now, he has been heavily linked with the LaLiga side, Real Madrid, who are on a mission to revamp their squad under Zinedine Zidane.
Amidst the talks, former Paris Saint Germain manager, Unai Emery said that initially the French forward wanted to join Real Madrid before PSG persuaded him to stay in France. Although PSG have now insisted that the 20-year-old player is not going anywhere.
"At some point, everyone pushed at PSG," Emery told Cadena SER. "I even talked to him and his father to stay."
"He wanted to choose Real Madrid, he also had a chance at Barcelona, but he wanted Madrid eyes closed."
"Among everybody, we convinced him about the project in France and made him stay. We had to set money over the table, and that's what we did."
Unai could only coach him for just a season, 2017-18 when Mbappe made his debut for the club. Since then, Mbappe has scored 59 goals in all competitions.

The Spanish tactician joined Arsenal after his departure in 2018. Unai finished his debut Premier League at the 5th position with taking the Gunners in the UEFA Europa League final, to be played against Chelsea on 29th May 2019.
Should they win it against their cross-city rivals, they will qualify for the UEFA Champions League in the next season.
