Maurizio Sarri speaks on the situation of Hazard’s contract renewal
The Italian tactician urges the board to retain the crucial cogs of his style of football.
Chelsea FC has recently tied Cesar Azpilicueta and N'Golo Kante on long-term deals that are supposed to keep them at the Stamford Bridge until 2022. Maurizio Sarri wants the club to follow the same model and tie down Cesc Fabregas and David Luiz, two vital cogs in his system. But first, the protagonist, Eden Hazard needs a renewal.
Hazard, whose current contract expires in 2020, has almost recently up until the World Cup expressed his desire to move somewhere else. The Belgian winger, who was signed from Lille OSC in 2012 has also revealed about his wish to move to the Bernabeu in the past.
However, three months on and Hazard finds himself central to Sarri’s plans who has brought about a considerable excitement for the Chelsea players and fans alike with his footballing philosophy and Hazard has been no stranger to it. “I want Eden here, of course, but I only want him here if he wants to stay here,” the Italian told reporters.
“I know that there are discussions between the club and Eden's agent every week, so if something new comes up the club will call me immediately.”
Along those lines, apparently, Chelsea have lined up a five-year-deal for Hazard that would see him being the top earner at Stamford Bridge on upwards of £300,000 every week.
Besides Eden, Maurizio also spoke about Cesc Fabregas and David Luiz’s renewals and labelled it as being important for the team. “They are very important players for us. Because, on the other hand, it’s very difficult to find a centre-back for this level, and it’s very difficult to find a central midfielder technically like Fàbregas. And so I think they have to stay with us.”

“David Luiz and Cesc are leaders. And so I think it’s very important for me, for the staff, and also for their team-mates that they stay with us. I know the difficulties of the new deal, as I said before. The problem is only the length of the new contract. But I think the club will be able to find the right solution.”
The issue being referred to here is that Chelsea as a football club only offers 12-month extensions to players upwards 30. And while, David Luiz and Fabregas are happy to continue with the club, they’re not happy with the short-term contract extension deals.
