The Spaniard has a big test awaiting later in the evening as Manchester United hosts Liverpool in the English top-tier.
In his latest interview with Premier League website, Manchester United's legendary goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel poured heaps of praises on David de Gea's meteoric rise over the years. Since his arrival at Old Trafford back in 2011-12 season, the Spaniard has travelled a long way and has displayed stunning performances time and time again over these years.
The 55-year-old former United goalkeeper admitted that he was not impressed when United signed De Gea from Atletico Madrid back in 2011. Schmeichel believes that De Gea proved his worth by displaying a stunning performance in United's 3-3 draw against Chelsea in 2012.
"When David De Gea first came to the Premier League he was a small boy, He looked like a small boy and he played like a small boy - and these are Sir Alex Ferguson's words - with big hands."
"He played Chelsea and he snapped into character with a couple of really incredible saves. From that moment on he has developed incredibly," said Schmeichel.
Schmeichel also praised de Gea's about his stunning growth in terms of game awareness, physicality, and positioning.
"His physicality has changed. I think now if you ask him, he's there, exactly where he wants to be"
"He's very often in the right position to make these kind of saves and he does it time and time again, and it's very impressive," added the five-time Premier League winner.
The Spaniard has a big test awaiting later in the evening as Manchester United hosts Liverpool. The Red's are currently tied on points with defending champions Manchester City on 65 points with a game in hand while United sits on 4th place with 51 points.
A win for United today will give them a major boost in securing a place in top 4 as well as will make the title chase more and more exciting.
