Sergio Lobera: Was compulsory to change midfield against Chennaiyin FC
The Gaurs head coach spoke to reporters post their comprehensive 3-0 victory against Chennaiyin FC.
FC Goa head coach Sergio Lobera had reason to celebrate, as his side romped to a 3-0 victory against Chennaiyin FC to kick-off their Hero Indian Super League campaign in style.
In front of a 13,000-strong home crowd cheering them on at Fatorda, the Gaurs blew away the Marina Machans like the pleasant breeze that flows through the city's beaches, with goals from Len Doungel, last season's top-scorer Ferran 'Coro' Corominas and Carlos Peña.
Lobera lauded the efforts of the players despite having a few of his important players miss out due to injuries and suspensions, especially in midfield.

"Before the match, it was a big challenge for us to show that this team is capable and competitive, and I am very happy with the result" added Lobera.

The 42-year old from Zaragoza was visibly pleased with the reaction of his players, but highlighted the fact that the whole is more than the sum of its parts.
Lobera said, "I'm very happy with the result, but what is most important to me is the team. If the team performs well, then the individuals will also perform well. Today the team responded well and proved to people that if required, they are ready to change and adapt to play in areas other than their own for the good of the team."
The coach made good mention of the performance of Brandon Fernandes who had to slot into a deeper role in midfield, owing to the positional changes forced upon by coach Lobera.
Players responded well to positional changes
Talking on the role change Lobera replied, "It was necessary because he has a good eye for a pass and also because we knew Chennaiyin are a good attacking side with strong midfielders. We knew Brandon was a player who is quick and will create problems for the opposition. I'm very happy with the way he played and his adaptability to the role."

I'm confident that will come in the other games during the season."
Having started on a winning note, FC Goa face a stiff test at home, when the defending champions Bengaluru FC come calling on Monday, 28 October at 7:30 PM IST. On the other hand, Chennaiyin FC return to their home to face Mumbai City FC in their first home game of the campaign on Diwali, 27th October.
