The Italian felt his side had their opportunities to win the game…
Delhi Dynamos FC head coach Gianluca Zambrotta rued Marcelinho’s penalty miss at a crucial time of the match following their 1-0 loss against Atlético de Kolkata in the Indian Super League at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium on Saturday evening. Dynamos’ Richard Gadze was brought down in the box by Henrique Sereno in the last fifteen minutes of the game and the referee awarded a penalty. However, Marcelinho couldn’t hit the target and soon after ATK earned a penalty of their own and Iain Hume did the rest. Speaking to the media after the match, Zambrotta said: “We had good preparations for the game. We lost an opportunity by missing the penalty which should have been scored and we could have been leading 1-0 but there were some other mistakes and we can learn from them to do better in the next match,” the Italian said. “Yes we made a few mistakes after missing the penalty and now we got our next game against Pune City and we have to focus and we did have a lot of opportunities in this game and we need to take them.” However, Zambrotta wasn’t too critical of his Brazilian striker and also Delhi’s top scorer this season with three goals. “Of course, Marcelinho is a quality player and an important member of our unit. It’s true that he missed a penalty but who does not miss. Legends of the game do so. Still he is the highest scorer of our side.” he said. ATK goalkeeper Debjit Majumder had a great day at the office as he pulled off eight saves in the match, including a triple save. Delhi’s marquee man Florent Malouda, who sat next to Zambrotta in the post-match press conference, congratulated the ATK goalkeeper but turned down the suggestion that his goalkeeping was the difference between the two sides. “No, I don’t think the difference was that [his goalkeeping]. Both teams played well and we had an opportunity to kill the game and we didn’t and I hope we learn from that.” Delhi, who suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday, now host FC Pune City on 27 October and Zambrotta said the Lions will have to move on from this defeat quickly and focus on that match. “We have to take the positives from this match and we have to focus on the next match and got to prepare well as we know our next opponent is a very good team.” Photo © ISL MediaReport by Khel Now Correspondent Rony.
