Sporting Clube de Goa beat SCC Cavelossim 3 – 1 to reclaim the second spot in the Goa Pro League table here at Ambelim on Friday. Francis Dadzie (4’) opened the score line while Harshad Naik (29’) & Victorino Fernandes (46’) added one each; the consolation goal for Cavelossim was scored by Moises D'Sa (63’).
It was Cavelossim who made the first inroads as their young striker Aaren D’Silva displayed some brilliant skills before launching a clean strike to test Ravi Kumar of Sporting who managed to keep it out safely. Sporting responded back quickly with a counter which saw Marcus Mascarenhas leap in the air to head a ball in the direction of the Ghanaian forward Dadzie who netted it in from a tight angle giving the visitors a perfect start.
In the 6th minute Sporting should have doubled their lead when Mauvin Borges made a good run on the left but a crucial tackle from Cryson Fernandes denied the former an assured goal. In the 20th minute Sporting once again came knocking when Harshad Naik’s dangerous cross went screaming past Marcus & Dadzie who failed to tap home the ball. At the half hour mark Harshad was finally rewarded for his hard work when he was brilliantly beat the off side trap to receive a good ball from Cajetan Fernandes in the mid. Harshad kept his calm in front of a charging keeper and gave sporting their second goal for the evening. The score stayed 2- 0 at the half time.

After long spells of possession by Sporting, Cavelossim finally found something to smile when their substitute Moises D’Sa made an instant impact as he rounded off the strong Sporting defender Loveday Enyinnaya to fire in the first goal for Cavelossim in the 63rd minute.
The home side should have made it 2 in the 68th minute when Daulat Dessai beat the off side trap making a good run but Sporting defender Joseph Clemente’s gasping tackle ensured no further damage to the score line. Towards the last quarter Sporting came close on numerous occasions, Marcus saw his goal denied by an offside flag while James Fernandes missed the target by a whisker. With this win Sporting climb back to the second spot with 39 points from 18 matches.
