Tokyo Olympics Day 14 Preview: Ravi Dahiya, men's hockey team look to clinch medals

India can potentially win four Olympic medals on Thursday.
Day 14 at the Tokyo Olympics will once again witness several high-profile Indian athletes in action. On Thursday, several Indian medal hopefuls will be seen at Tokyo 2020. The Indian men’s hockey team is all set to face Germany in a bid to end their long medal drought at the Olympic Games. On the other hand, ace wrestler Vinesh Phogat is all set to make her first appearance at the Tokyo Olympics.
Elsewhere, medal hopefuls Deepak Punia, Ravi Kumar Dahiya and others will also be seen in action in their respective events. Here is a preview of all the Indian action on Day 14 at the Tokyo Olympics.
Golf: Women’s Individual Stroke Play Round 2
The Indian women golfers are all set to continue their Tokyo Olympics journey. Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar will be the Indian representatives at this event. Aditi Ashok is one of the finest female golfers that the country has ever produced. She is the first LPGA player from India. The 23-year-old has won the Ladies European Tour, Women’s Indian Open, Qatar Ladies Open and several other prestigious competitions. Ashok has lived up to her reputation so far, with a fantastic start in the first round.
On the other hand, Diksha Dagar is one of the emerging golfers from the country. She became the second Indian female golfer after Aditi Ashok to win the Ladies European Tour.
Dagar has a hearing impairment and had clinched a silver medal at the 2017 Summer Deaflympics. The 20-year-old received a last-minute invitation to participate in the Tokyo Olympics, after the withdrawal of South African golfer Paula Reto. Dagar has had a slow start and will look to improve her game in the second round.
Round 2 of the event will begin at 4:00 AM IST.
Men’s Hockey: Bronze Medal Match – India Vs Germany
The Indian men's hockey team will aim to end their 41-year drought for a medal at the Tokyo Olympics. The Men in Blue suffered a comprehensive 5-2 defeat at the hands of Belgium. They will now have a chance to clinch the bronze medal against Germany in a battle between the two losing semi-finalists.
The match will begin at the Oi Hockey Stadium from 7:00 AM IST.
Women’s Wrestling: Freestyle 57kg Repechages
Anshu Malik will be back in contention for a podium finish through the repechage rounds. The teenager suffered a loss against Belarusian Iryna Kurachkina in her first bout. However, Kurachkina ha made it to the final, enabling the Indian grappler to compete in the repechages.
The repechage round will begin at 7:30 AM IST.
Women’s Wrestling: Freestyle 53kg 1/8 Final
Vinesh Phogat is one of the seven Indian wrestlers in action at the Tokyo Olympics. She is one of India's biggest bets for an Olympic medal in Tokyo. After suffering a career-threatening injury, the 26-year-old became the first Indian female wrestler to win a gold at the Asian Games.
The two-time Commonwealth Games gold medalist also claimed her first-ever Asian Wrestling Championships title in Almaty, Kazakhstan in April. She defeated Meng Hsieh of Chinese Taipei 6-0 in the final to pocket her first-ever gold medal in the continental meet. The entire nation will be praying with bated breath when Phogat takes centre stage in the women’s freestyle 53kg category at the Olympic Games.
Phogat will commence her Tokyo 2020 journey against Sweden's Sofia Mattsson. The event will begin at 8:00 AM IST.
Athletics: Men’s 20km Race Walk Final
The men's 20km race walk is an event in which India will have several participants. Sandeep Kumar, Rahul Rohilla and KT Irfan will represent India in this event. The latter is the strongest competitor amongst them. Irfan had bagged a bronze medal at the 2017 Asian Racewalking Championships.
The 31-year-old is vastly experienced and will be participating in his third Olympic Games. Irfan created a national record in the 2012 London Olympics, after finishing 10th with a timing of 1:20:21.
All three Indian race walkers will be in action at the Sapporo Odori Park. The event will start at 1:00 PM IST.
Men’s Wrestling: Freestyle 57kg final
Reigning Asian champion Ravi Kumar Dahiya will compete in this event. He defeated Colombia's Oscar Tigreros 13-2 and Bulgaria's Georgi Vangelov 14-2 and Nurislam Sanayev in the semis to reach the final.
The 23-year-old will now be competing for either the gold or silver medal in the men's freestyle 57kg category final. The event will begin at 2:45 PM IST.
Men’s Wrestling: Freestyle 86kg bronze medal match
Deepak Punia is another debutant wrestler who has followed in the footsteps of Ravi Kumar Dahiya to be in contention for an Olympic medal. Punia got past Nigeria's Ekerekeme Agiomor 12-1, Zushen Lin of China 6-3 to qualify for the semis, where he lost against David Morris Taylor to advance to the bronze medal match.
The 22-year-old will be seen in action in the bronze medal match in the men's freestyle 86kg category. The event will begin at 2:45 PM IST.
