With the Olympic cycle beginning, a number of World Championships are lined up this week.

A lot of sporting events are lined up in the upcoming week of the Indian sports calendar. The Olympics 2024 cycle is about to catch up pace with two World Championships in Archery and Cycling scheduled next week. Archery World Championships is set to offer quota places for Paris Olympics while important ranking points are at stake at the Cycling Worlds.

The Badminton cycle after a two-week Asian leg shifts far east to Oceania - Australian Open. HS Prannoy is set to lead the Indian contingent alongside few other top shuttlers. Here we take a look at the events to follow in the upcoming week (July 31- 06 August) in the Indian sports calendar.

Archery

World Archery Championships will serve as a qualification event for the Summer Olympics 2024.

  • July 31-August 06: World Archery Championships

Badminton

Commonwealth Games 2022 champion Lakshya Sen was the lone Indian last week to enter the semi-finals stage of Japan Open. This week several Indians will look to make amends by entering the further stages and in particular PV Sindhu would look to go past the opening round after two successive opening round losses at Korea and Japan Opens.

  • August 2-6: Australian Open (BWF 500)

Cricket

After clinching the test series (1-0), the Indian cricket team began the white ball leg on a positive note by winning the first ODI comprehensively by five wickets. However, they were pegged back by the Windies in the second ODI and now head into the series decider in the third and final ODI match on Tuesday (August 1).

India is scheduled to play a five-match T20I series against the West Indies starting August 3.

Cycling

Top Indian cyclists Esow Alben and Ronaldo Singh are set to spearhead the Indian contingent at the Cycling Championships. Ronaldo Singh broke two NR at the Asian Championships in June and shall look to continue the same at the Worlds.

  • August 3-13: World Cycling Championships

Hockey

The Indian hockey team had a tough time at Torneo del Centanario - four nation tournament in Spain. In the four matches that they played, India registered a single win while drawing two and losing. Now the action shifts to Asian Champions Trophy with top Asian countries plying their trade in the tournament ahead of the Asian games.

Table Tennis

After the successful completion of UTT Season 4, Indian paddlers are scheduled to take part in a series of WTT tournaments in America.

  • July 31-6 August: WTT Contender Lima

Tennis

Several Indians this week are slated to play in the ATP 250 and above tournaments. Anirudh and Prasanth Sundar will be making their debut at ATP 500 tournament and will have to play two qualifying matches for a place in the main draw. India's number two men's singles, Sasikumar Mukund got into the ATP 500 qualifiers.

He recently entered the main draw of an ATP 250 tournament after winning two qualifying matches against higher ranked opponents and shall look to continue his fine form.
