World University Games 2023: Sift Kaur Samra leads with two gold medals as Indian shooters dominate

Indian shooters continued their prime form in the ongoing World University Games 2023 by clinching four more medals on day 4 of the competition. Of the 21 medals the Indian contingent have won so far, 13 have come from shooting showcasing their complete dominance with Archery (7) the next best in terms of medals won by Indians.

Rifle shooters Sift Kaur Samra and Ashi Chouksey won gold and silver medals respectively in 50m rifle 3 positions. Manini Kaushik, the third Indian in the final, exited early after the first two series, after putting below average scores.

Later in the day, the trio of Ashi Chouksey, Manini and Sift Kaur clinched gold in 50m rifle 3 positions team event.

The pistol team added a colour to the medals tally, by clinching bronze in men’s 10m Air Pistol team event. The team comprised of Arjun Cheema, Varun Tomar and Anmol Jain. They finished behind China and South Korea tied for top spot with 1742 points, but the latter had 67 inner hits with the former having 61, thereby awarding the Koreans the gold medal.

On the other hand, the athletic events have started to take place with several Indians slated to take part in the track and field events. Youngster Avantika Narale clocked 11.63 seconds in women’s 100m sprint and qualified for the semi-finals. Bhavani Yadav jumped 6.12m in women’s long jump, enabling her to qualify for the finals.
