India doesn’t have any national sport officially.
A national sport is an integral part of a country’s identity and culture which holds great significance. Most countries do not have any national sports, however owing to the popularity of that particular sport in the country, it is unofficially considered the national sport of that nation.
Some countries also have two national sports one considered for winter sport and other for summer. Sports serve as a huge significance to the country which also showcases the diversity. The national game of any country is immensely symbolic.
Every country has a national sport that is quite popular among the people. India used to have hockey as the national sport due to its huge success in the late 20th century.
However in 2020, a teacher from Maharashtra’s Dhule district filed an RTI with the government, asking whether hockey is recognized as India’s official national sport. According to the Ministry of Youth Affairs, the government’s goal is to encourage and promote all popular sports disciplines. As a result, no sport is officially designated as India’s national sport.
