Total medals won by India in every edition of Olympics

India is competing in their 26th edition of the Olympic games at Paris.
India has been participating at the summer Games since 1900. The country has competed in every edition of the summer games since the Amsterdam Olympics in 1928. The Paris Olympics 2024 is India’s 26th summer games, with the nation only missing only seven editions since 1900.
Independent India first took part in the London Olympics in 1948. Before Independence, India had secured five medals at the Olympics. Three of them had come through the men’s hockey team and two of them were secured in athletics.
Since 1947, India has won 35 medals at the summer games. Here too, the men’s hockey team contributed immensely. They have accounted for ten medals in which seven of them had come in consecutive games.
While in team events, the men’s hockey dominates the field. In individual events, wrestling has provided seven medals. KD Jadhav was the first Indian to win an individual medal. He won the bronze medal in men’s bantamweight wrestling during the Helsinki Olympics in 1952.
At the Sydney Olympics 2000, Karnam Malleshwari became the first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal. She secured the bronze medal in women’s 54 kg weightlifting. India has been securing medals at every Olympics since the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

There was a drought from the Los Angeles 1984 till the Barcelona 1992 Olympics. But over the past few years, Indian athletes have achieved historic victories at the summer games.
Abhinav Bindra won the country’s first individual gold at Beijing in men’s 10m air rifle shooting. Few years later, Neeraj Chopra brought home the first track and field medal by winning the gold in men’s Javelin throw at Tokyo.
Manu Bhaker secured the first medal of the Paris Olympics 2024. She became the youngest Indian shooter and the first Indian woman shooter to win an Olympic medal. Bhaker won the bronze in women’s 10m air pistol event.
She became the first woman and first Indian since indepedence to win two medals in a single edition of the summer games. Bhaker won her second bronze in mixed team event at mixed 10m air pistol with Sarabjot Singh.
Swapnil Kusale won India’s third medal at the Paris Olympics 2024. The shooter won bronze in men’s 50m rilfe three positions event.
The Indian men’s hockey team won the bronze medal after defeating Spain 2-1 at Paris Olympics 2024. It was India’s fourth medal at Paris.
Chopra secured India’s fifth medal at Paris Olympics 2024. He won the silver medal in men’s javelin throw. Meanwhile, Aman Sehrawat won India’s sixth medal at Paris as he secured bronze in men’s 57 kg freestyle wrestling.

India has sent 117 athletes to the Paris Olympics 2024. They are hoping to surpass the tally from Tokyo. There are multiple medal contenders for India at Paris who are giving their best shot for the ultimate glory.
