Paris Olympics 2024 Day 12 Results: Vinesh Phogat disqualified from gold match; Mirabai Chanu misses bronze by 1kg

It was a heartbreaking day for Vinesh Phogat who missed out on a medal despite reaching the final.
Indian contingent suffered its most demoralising day on August 7 (Day 12) at Paris Olympics 2024 in France when Vinesh Phogat was disqualified after being found overweight during the weigh-in on the morning of her gold medal match. It stopped her from contesting the final of the 50kg category in women’s wrestling and she was also stripped of any potential medal due to the disqualification. It was a heartbreaking outcome for the wrestler, who had overcome huge odds to reach the final.
Unlike Vinesh Phogat, other Indian athletes did get to perform in various disciplines with the majority of them representing the country in athletics events. Athletes like Suraj Panwar, Priyanka Goswami, Sarvesh Kushare, Jyothi Yarraji and Annu Rani were in action but none of them were able to secure a place in the final of their respective disciplines despite putting in their best efforts.

Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar were involved in the golf discipline and kicked off their account in the Women’s Individual Stroke Play Round 1. Over in table tennis, the Indian women’s team was eliminated from the quarterfinals by Germany who won the contest by a 3-1 scoreline.
Later in the day, Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Mirabai Chanu finished fourth, missing out on a bronze by 1kg mark. She has now become the sixth Indian to finish fourth at Paris Olympics 2024. Meanwhile, the duo of Praveen Chithravel and Abdulla Aboobacker were involved in the men’s triple jump qualification event.
