India added two medals to their tally on Thursday.

Following the controversy around Vinesh Phogat and her unfortunate disqualification from Paris Olympics 2024 in France, Indian athletes had to muster up strength and give reasons to celebrate for the fans back home. All eyes were on the Indian men’s hockey team which was involved in the bronze medal match on August 8 (Day 13) against Spain and on the reigning Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra.

Losing to Germany in the semi-final was a bitter blow that left the Indian hockey team dejected. However, in what was to be the last-ever match of Indian legendary goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, the objective was simple, beat Spain and win a second consecutive bronze medal after the triumph in Tokyo Olympics.

Showing an incredible amount of resilience, the Indian men’s hockey team recorded a brilliant comeback win to secure the bronze medal by defeating Spain courtesy of a 2-1 scoreline. A fourth bronze medal was added to the Indian tally in Paris due to the victory.

Neeraj Chopra then added a first silver medal for India in Paris, losing his gold to Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem after a thrilling men’s javelin throw final.

Away from them, several other notable Indian athletes, including Jyothi Yarraji, were involved. Eyes were also on Aman Sehrawat and Anshu Malik in wrestling. The duo were hoping to bring some joy from the wrestling discipline which has been overwhelmingly disappointing for the Indian athletes across the board.
