Paris Olympics 2024 Day 2 results: Manu Bhaker wins bronze; Ramita, Arjun enter final

Manu Bhaker created history on Day 2 of Paris Olympics 2024.
The Indian challenge at the Paris Olympics 2024 took a positive turn on July 28 (Sunday) as Manu Bhaker secured the first medal of the quadrennial games for the nation. She became the first Indian female athlete to secure an Olympic medal in shooting after winning the bronze medal in the 10m Air Pistol event. Her companions too have ended the day as medal hopefuls.
Ramita Jindal and Arjun Babuta qualified for the final round in women’s and men’s air rifle 10m shooting events respectively, summing up a successful day in shooting events for India at Paris Olympics 2024.
However, there were a few disappointments to digest for Indian athletes. Sumit Nagal was knocked out in the first round of men’s singles in tennis while the Indian women’s team in archery bowed out after losing their quarter-final fixture.
India’s two entries in swimming could not not qualify for the final even after an impressive finish in the heats. Dhinidhi Desinghu finished first in her heats but her timings was not enough to qualify for the final in 200m freestyle.

Meanwhile in the men’s 100m backstroke, Srihari Natraj finished second in heats but fell short of the final list. There were plenty of other Indian athletes in action on an eventful day at the Paris Olympics.

Women’s Singles Round of 64 – Sreeja Akula beat Christina Kallberg (SWE) by 4-0.
