Manu Bhaker gets one step closer to a historic third medal at Paris Olympics 2024.

The Indian contingent was in action across various disciplines on Friday, August 2 at Paris Olympics 2024 in France. It was another day full of ups and downs for the Indian athletes who are trying to go toe to toe with the best from across the globe.

Friday saw the Indian men’s hockey team beat Australia in a thrilling encounter by a 3-2 score in the final Pool B match. It was their first win over the Kookaburras in 52 years at the Olympics.

Another history breaking record was seen through Manu Bhaker, who impressed in the 25m Women’s Qualification Precision event by finishing second and qualified for the final. Bhaker is keeping the hopes of a historic third medal alive. Joining Bhaker in making history is shuttler, Lakshya Sen as he became the first Indian male shuttler to reach the singles semifinals at the Olympics.

As for the Indian team in archery’s mixed team event, it was the case of so close yet so far. The duo of Ankita Bhakat and Dhiraj Bommadevara lost the bronze medal match to competitors from the United States of America, coming away empty-handed despite a valiant effort.

In athletics, the results did not go in favour for India as Parul Chaudhary and Ankita Dhyani could not qualify for the final in women’s 5000m. Chaudhary produced a season best 15:10.68 but finished 14th as only the top eight could qualify.
