India is sending 117 member contingent to Paris.

The Indian contingent brings a mix of experienced Olympians and promising newcomers. Neeraj Chopra, who made history in Tokyo with India’s first athletics gold, will defend his javelin throw title. Other returning medalists include weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, badminton star PV Sindhu, and boxer Lovlina Borgohain.

The men’s hockey team, having ended a 41-year medal drought in Tokyo, aims to build on that success. Their performance will be particularly poignant as it marks the final Olympics for veteran goalkeeper PR Sreejesh.

New talents like hurdler Jyothi Yarraji, world champion boxer Nikhat Zareen, and the badminton duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are expected to make their mark. The shooting contingent, led by Manu Bhaker, hopes to bounce back from Tokyo’s disappointment.

India’s diversity is reflected in its Olympic team, with 44-year-old tennis player Rohan Bopanna being the oldest member and 14-year-old swimmer Dhinidhi Desinghu the youngest.

The country is also breaking new ground in some events. Anush Agarwalla will become the first Indian to compete in Olympic dressage, expanding India’s presence in equestrian sports.

The 2024 Paris Olympics will primarily be held around the city of Paris. A total of 35 venues will be used to host 329 events around Paris, Ile-de-region and other parts spread around the country.

Meanwhile, the opening ceremony will be held on July 26 at river Seine instead of the traditional stadium setup. Events such as Football and Rugby sevens will begin from July 24 while the rest of the events will begin a day later. The games will be concluded on August 11.
