Medals contenders for India on Day 6 (August 1) at Paris Olympics 2024
Shooting – Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Position Individual Event – Swapnil Kusale (1 PM)
The Indian shooters having already shot down two bronze medals and will now look to add another medal to the tally on Thursday. Swapnil Kusale will be competing to finish on the podium in the Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Position individual event. He was expected to do well but couldn’t live up to the standards in the qualification. The fact that still he managed to make it to the finals speaks volumes about his talent.

Kusale, who trains under Tejaswini Sawant, had a heartbreak in the World Championships in 2022 when he finished fourth in the finals. Last year in the Asian Games, it was yet another fourth place which stopped him from being on the podium by a whisker. The 23-year-old seemed determined to see the Indian flag go high and if he shoots to his potential, he could hear the Indian National Anthem being played in the arena as well.
Athletics – Men’s 20km Race Walk – Akshdeep Singh, Vikas Singh, Paramjeet Bisht (11 AM)
India’s campaign in athletics will start on Thursday with the Men’s 20km Race Walk. During qualification, there were six Indian race walkers who overhauled the Olympic qualification time of 1:20:10s. But with only three entries allowed per country, Akshdeep Singh, Vikash Singh, and Paramjeet Singh Bisht were selected to represent India in the event.
Akshdeep holds the national record with the timing of 1:19:38s which he set earlier this year beating his record from the 2023 National Open Race Walk Championships in Ranchi.

Vikas Singh and Paramjeet Bisht participated in the World Athletics Race Walking Team Championship held in April and finished with timings below they would have loved to. All three have to put in their best performance to stand a chance in the race.
Athletics – Women’s 20km Race Walk – Priyanka Goswami (12:50 PM)
Priyanka Goswami will be competing in her second Olympics after finishing 17th in the Tokyo Olympics. The 28-year-old has been one of the best race walkers India has ever produced. She created history at the 2022 Commonwealth Games becoming the first Indian to win a medal in women’s race walk when she bagged the silver in the 10km walk.
In the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships, she again took home the silver medal, this time in the 20km race walk. The 28-year-old who has the best timing among Indians will look to challenge her fellow female walkers for a medal at Paris Olympics 2024. She is a darkhorse in the competition and the Paris atmosphere could inspire Priyanka to bring her best.
