China was leading the medal tally until the last event of the day which saw USA taking the lead.

Sunday, the 4th of August, was an entertaining day at the Paris Olympics 2024 in France. The prestigious quadrennial event saw some of the best athletes in track and field compete in various disciplines to win gold for their respective countries and the fans who cheer them on from back home and at the stadium.

China was leading the medal tally until the final event of day 9 of Paris Olympics 2024, before USA pipped to the top with a gold in men’s 100m. Noah Lyles won the men’s 100m gold by five thousandths of a second ahead of Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson and fellow American Fred Kerley. The result was eagerly awaited as Thompson was running impatient and had earlier thought he won. Lyles ran around the track in celebration while the Jamaican was left in disbelief.

The track and field events at Paris Olympics 2024 saw nail-biting finishes. The women’s high jump final saw four medals being awarded to the athletes. Ukraine’s Yaroslava Mahuchikh won gold, Australian Nicola Olyslagers took silver while Ukraine’s Iryna Gerashchenko and Australian Eleanor Patterson shared the bronze.

India could not add medals to their tally on day 9 but will be hoping to add few more in the last week of Paris Olympics 2024. The wrestling contingent will start their campaign on Monday.

One of the biggest outcomes of the day was Novak Djokovic winning gold in the men’s singles event from tennis. The Serbian beat Carlos Alcaraz of Spain in the final in straight sets. With this win, the 24-time leading Grand Slam winner completed his career golden slam and became the fifth player to achieve it.

The medal tally topper after August 4th is Team USA with 19 gold medals, 19 silver and 26 bronze. Five of their athletes finished on top of the podium. Scottie Scheffler started the day with gold in men’s golf and five and few hours later Kristen Faulkner added one more through women’s road race under cycling. Bobby Finke secured the gold in men’s 1500m freestyle final.

In the women’s 4x100m medley relay final, USA came first as they added their fourth medal of the day. The final event saw Lyeles win gold in men’s 100m as Fred Kerley secured a bronze.

China’s time at the top of the medal tally came to an end on day 9. So far, they have won 19 gold medals, 15 silver and 11 bronze. Their day started with Fan Zhendong winning gold in men’s table tennis singles. Liu Yang and Zou Jingyuan took gold and silver respectively in men’s rings final under artistic gymnanstics. In swimming, the nation finished first in men’s 4x100m medley relay.

Coming in third place is France as they could only secure three bronze medals on day 9 at Paris Olympics 2024. They have now collected 12 gold medals, 14 silvers and 18 bronze. Felix Lebrun won his bronze medal playoff match in men’s singles table tennis.

The men’s foil team under fencing won bronze comfortably against USA. The third bronze medal for the hosts came through the men’s 4x100m medley relay in swimming.

Australia is placed fourth in the medal tally with 12 gold medals, 11 silver and eight bronze. Swimming continued to bring glory to the nation as the women’s 4x100m medley relay in swimming took silver medal. Meg Harris also finished second in women’s 50m freestyle.

Great Britain also had a rough day similiar to Australia. They are in fifth postition in the medal tally with ten gold medals, 12 silvers and 15 bronze. Tommy Fleetwood started proceedings with a silver in men’s golf as an hour later Charlotte Fry took the bronze in individual dressage grand prix freestyle under Equestrian.

Amber Jo Rutter won silver in women’s skeet as there was a controversy involving her shots being included or not with the refeere. Harry Hepworth won the bronze medal in men’s vault final under artistic gymanstics.
