After winning Group J and qualifying for the knockout rounds, the sixth seed cruised through her round of 16 opponent Mia Blichfeldt of Denmark in straight games to set up a showdown with local favourite Akane Yamaguchi.
Sindhu will face Yamaguchi for the first time at the Olympics since she has only faced lower-ranked opponents. Yamaguchi, a former World No. 1, is small but extremely nimble, with lightning-fast reflexes. Her exceptional shot-making ability also tends to tire out her opponents. The 24-year-old from Fukui, Japan, is a 2018 World Championships bronze medalist and a 2018 Asian Games gold medalist, and her greatest performance this year was in the All England Open, where she advanced to the quarterfinals before losing to PV Sindhu 21-16, 16-21, 19-21.
Sindhu and Yamaguchi have met each other 18 times, with Sindhu claiming 11 victories. Sindhu's victory in the All England quarterfinals helped her snap Yamaguchi's three-match undefeated streak against her.
The day started on a disappointing note with both Manu Bhaker and Rahi Sarnobat crashing out from the qualifications rounds. However Deepika Kuamri started off well winning her pre quarters against Russia's Ksenia Perova. Then coming to athletics India's Avinash Sable failed to reach the finals but only after delivering a valiant performance.
Whereas Dutee Chand and MP Jabir also failed to make it to the finals. Then came the biggest moment from today when Lovlian Borgohain defeated Chines Taipei's Chen Nien-chin and assured India a second Olympics medal in Tokyo. The Indian Women's Hockey team also managed to sneak an important win against Ireland in a do or die encounter. But the morning session ended in a heartbreak for the Indian fans as Deepika Kumari crashed out after losing to South Korea's An San.
11:51 AM One of the most anticipated contests today involve P.V. Sindhu in badminton. The World No.7 will play her quarterfinals match against Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi. If she wins, Sindhu will ensure a bronze medal for India by reaching the semi-finals.
Why PV Sindhu needs to win a medal at the Tokyo Olympics?
11:37 PM Archery Women's Individuals: That's all for Deepika Kumari!! An San beats her in straight sets and progresses to the next round. Emphatic win for the Korean.
It was a lion hearted performance from Deepika Kumari to reach till the quarterfinals. She fought valiantly but that was not enough against South Korea's An San. The Korean is aiming for her third Gold medal at Tokyo Olympics and it was always going to be a very tough fight for the Indian. Deepika Kumari's Tokyo Olympic campaign comes to an end!

11:27 AM Archery: India's Deepika Kumari will be in action against South Korea's An San who has already clinched two Gold medals in Tokyo after winning the Mixed Team and Women's Team event. She also finished the ranking round breaking the Olympic record. It is going to be a very high octane clash between two world-class archers.
11:16 AM Archery: Deepika Kumari's quarter-final match begins at 11:30 AM against South Korea's An San.
AN San has overcome HAYAKAWA Ren in what proved to be a nailbiter of a contest. The South Korean shot three 10s in a row in the final deciding set to leave no room for complacency. Our very own Deepika Kumari will face San in the quarter final and the world number 1 will have to bring her best game if she wants to be in contention for a medal. Moreover, the fact that Deepika's team lost to San's team in the Archery Mixed team event should be reason enough for Deepika to head into this tie with a motive.
The Indian eves will now have to win against South Africa and hope that Great Britain defeats Ireland in the next match. A far from convincing performance from the Women in Blue but a crucial win keeps their Olympics hopes alive. They wasted as many as 14 penalty corners and should be on their minds. All the chances that were wasted should be converted into goals next time around. This was a hard-fought victory for Rani Rampal and company against Ireland in hot and humid weather conditions.

SCORE INDIA 0-0 IRELAND
9:57 AM - Women's Hockey: What an exciting end to the second quarter and the first half! Indian women must be feeling frustrated not scoring after 10 penalty corners in two quarters. 9:54 AM - Women's Hockey: India get three more penalty corners. Nine penalty corners in total but they have wasted all of them. They finally test the keeper on the ninth attempt but no goal. 7:32 AM Rapid Round of 25m Pistol Women’s Shooting: Manu's final scoresheet looks like this. The two 8s in the final laps were costly for her.
Fact File: Vijay Kumar, in London 2012 rapid fire, remains the only pistol shooter from India to win a medal at the Olympics.
7:30 AM Hockey: Because of the extremely heavy rain, the start of the Ireland vs India game will be slightly delayed. We will keep you posted.
7:29 AM Golf: Anirban Lahiri takes 5 shots in the first round, while 4 is the par score. Needs a birdie next to balance his sheet.
Udayan seems to have lost his confidence. He had taken three shots to clear the 337m hole yesterday. Today, it took him four - a par-score. This will not help his rankings. He moves on to the 7th hole now. Clearly in need of birdies, and a lot of them!
7:28 AM Golf: Meanwhile, Anirban Lahiri gets set to take his first shot in Round 2. Udayan Mane is stranded at the bottom, while Lahiri is currently tied 11th.
BREAKING: Manu Bhaker crashes out of #Tokyo2020. The young shooter did well in the Precision Round, but a 290 in the Rapid Round was a little too low for her to make it to the final 8.
She walks out, heartbroken.
This is the end for Indian Women's 25m pistol shooting as both Manu Bhaker and Rahi Sarnobat crash out. Brave displays from both shooters, but in the end, it wasn't enough.
BREAKING: Manu Bhaker scores 290 in the Rapid Round of 25m Women's Pistol Shooting. Her total stands at 582, and she stands at 11th in the rankings.
7:20 AM Rapid Round of 25m Pistol Women’s Shooting: This is immense pressure, as 130 crore Indians have their eyes set on her. However, she only needs to concentrate on her game.
Started with an 8, but 4 10s take her score to 97 in the third and final series.
7:18 AM Rapid Round of 25m Pistol Women’s Shooting: Four bullseye of the last five shots. This is what she needs to qualify. This is what India expects from her!
Update: She still stands on the 9th spot, just outside the qualification mark
7:15 AM Rapid Round of 25m Pistol Women’s Shooting: 10, 10, 9, 10. She starts the third series with a 39 out of 40. Another 10 makes it 49 out of the possible 50. Last flourish! Go for it Manu!
7:14 AM Rapid Round of 25m Pistol Women’s Shooting: Ends with another 9. Second Series ends. Manu with 7 10s and three 9s. A total of 97.
However, she's fallen to 9th in the rankings. The last series needs to be a major push from her. Will she make the cut?
7:11 AM Rapid Round of 25m Pistol Women’s Shooting: Another 10. 60. Follows it up with a 10 and a 9. Another 9. She's on song.
On a serious note, this is brilliant shooting. Clearly shows why she's one of the best in the world. Just keep the nerves calm, Manu!
7:09 AM Rapid Round of 25m Pistol Women’s Shooting: Five consecutives! 50 out of 50! Her school teachers would be proud of her!
7:08 AM Rapid Round of 25m Pistol Women’s Shooting: Three 10s! The second series starts off with a bang. This is what India expects off you, Manu!
Young Indian athletes have both performed and buckled under pressure on stages such as these in the past. Which bracket will Manu find herself in? She's clearly got the goods to perform. Will she be able to deliver the goods though?

7:03 AM Rapid Round of 25m Pistol Women’s Shooting: Three shots, three 10s! Now that's just the kind of start Manu needed.
She's scored 49 out of the possible 50 in her first five shots. Going strong, Manu!
7:00 AM Athletics Men’s 3000m Steeplechase Round 1: Sable is the fastest finisher to not qualify for the final. Unlucky! Three athletes slower than him will run in the final. Fate!
6:59 Golf: Udayan manages a bogey in Hole 4. The par score here was 3 and it took him 4 shots to clear the hole. Disappointing. He's at the bottom of the table.
6:55 AM Rapid Round of 25m Pistol Women’s Shooting: Are your eyes set on the board? Manu Bhaker is set to resume shooting. She's positioned in the top 3 with Anna Korakakki and Antoaneta Kostadinova in Relay 3.
6:53 AM Archery: Deepika Kumari's quarter-final match begins at 11:30 AM against South Korea's An San.
6:42 AM What do you guys think about Deepika Kumari performance till now in the women's individual event. Comment and let us know. You can also tweet to us at @KhelNow with #Tokyo2020KhelNow. I will select best one and share here.

6:20 AM GOLF: Another par-finish from Mane as he takes four shots to put the ball into the hole. A decent start in Round 2 for the golfer from Bengaluru.
6:20 AM Archery Women’s 1/8 Eliminations: Deepika is now into the last 8 of the Women's individual competition. Archery has been a strong suit for India over the past few years but a medal has always been elusive for the Indian contingent.
Deepika, currently the world number 1, started her campaign rather shakily this time but has gone from strength to strength in each round. She now potentially faces one of AN San or HAYAKAWA Ren in the next round.
AN San finished first in the qualifying rounds earlier so it will definitely not be an easy match. A medal is in touching distance and Deepika would be hoping that she can finally bring one home.
6:19 AM Athletics Men's 3000m Steeplechase Round 1 - Heat 2: The men's 3000 m steeplechase is about to get underway with India's 20th seed Avinash Mukund Sable competing from lane 2.

6:10 AM Archery Women’s 1/8 Eliminations: After a brilliant start to the tie, Deepika has slightly slipped off here. She started this set with a very poor 7 that has let Perova right back into the competition. The set score is 5-5 and we head to a shoot-off to separate the two.Score: Deepika 5-5 Perova
6:08 AM Archery Women’s 1/8 Eliminations: The fourth set has been split between the two athletes here! Deepika had a chance to win the game here with a 10 in her final shot but it wasn't to be. The score ended at 26-26 and the two athletes take a point apiece.Score: Deepika 5-3 Perova

6:05 AM Archery Women’s 1/8 Eliminations: A poor finish from Deepika to set 2 when she had the opportunity to take it home. Perova's 10 in her third arrow helped her case there. 26-27 The set score is level now at 2-2Score: Deepika 2-2 Perova
6:04 AM Rapid Round of 25m Pistol Women’s Shooting: It was a brave fight from Rahi, but 32nd is a little too far away from qualification. She lost her way at times, something that cost her heavily in both rounds.
6:02 AM Archery Women’s 1/8 Eliminations: A fantastic start from the world number 1. Her second strike was a proper bullseye! Deepika takes the first set by 3 points. 28-25 Score: Deepika 2-0 Perova
6:00 AM – Archery Women’s 1/8 Eliminations: The match begins and it's Perova who gets us underway.

5:49 AM Rapid Round of 25m Pistol Women’s Shooting: She follows the 19 with a 30 in the next three shots, with three 10s! She's really enjoying herself now. However, she needs to continue in the same vein.
5:48 AM Rapid Round of 25m Pistol Women’s Shooting: Rahi starts off with a 10 and follows it up with a 9. A good last few shots could help her finish on a high.
5:47 AM Rapid Round of 25m Pistol Women’s Shooting: The third series has also begun. Rapid Round doesn't give a lot of time for shooters to calm their nerves. Goes by its name.
5:46 AM Rapid Round of 25m Pistol Women’s Shooting: Sarnobat is fighting it out well! Scores consecutive 10s in her sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth shot. Ends with a 9 to make it 94 in the second series.
5:45 AM Rapid Round of 25m Pistol Women’s Shooting: Sarnobat follows up the 6 with a 9. She needs to finish on a high.
