Paris 2024 Olympics: Men's Football draw revealed

France and Argentina are favourites to win the gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics

A total of sixteen countries representing six confederations will compete in the Paris 2024 Olympics men’s football tournament; the majority of the eighteen players in each nation’s squad are Under-23 players.

But countries may also choose up to three players who are older than 23, so there’s a chance that this summer, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe will play for France and Argentina, respectively.Four groups of four will comprise the 16 Men’s nations, with the top two teams from each group moving on to the knockout phase. Up until the final, the competition will proceed according to the traditional knockout format.

Twelve countries from six confederations will compete in the women’s tournament; however, there are no age limitations when choosing their 18-player teams.The top two teams from every group, along with the top two third-place teams, advance to the knockout stage. The 12 Women’s nations have been divided into three groups of four. Up until the final, the competition will proceed according to the traditional knockout style.The country that places third (winning the bronze medal match) will earn a bronze medal; those who came out on top of the corresponding men’s and women’s finals are going to receive gold medals; the runners-up will get silver medals.

Twelve of the sixteen Men’s nations—including France, which has qualified as the host nation—have been officially announced. It was unexpected for two-time gold medallists and reigning champions Brazil to miss out on qualifying for the Games in Paris, as did three-time winners Team GB and Hungary.

Three limits are set aside for the AFC Under-23 Asian Cup qualifying rounds, which take place from April 15 to May 3. The final limit is set aside for in two ways Guinea, the team that completed fourth in the Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations, or the nation that positioned fourth in the AFC Under-23 Asian Cup. The winner of this playoff will represent both countries at the Olympic Games.
