Namrata Batra wins India’s first-ever medal in Wushu at World Games 2025

Namrata Batra bagged second medal for India at the World Games 2025 with silver in Wushu.
India clinched its second medal at the World Games 2025 after wushu athlete Namrata Batra reached the finals of the women’s sanda 52kg event in Chengdu, China, on Tuesday, August 12.
The 24-year-old Asian Championships silver medallist made history by securing India’s first-ever medal in wushu at the World Games. After reaching the finals, she eventually had to settle for silver after going down 2-0 to local favourite Mengyue Chen in the final.
Namrata’s campaign in Chengdu was unstoppable. The four-time national champion had secured a 2-0 win against Lebanon’s Barbara El Rassi in the quarter-finals. The Indian continued her momentum in the semifinals by defeating Philippines’ Krizan Faith Collado 2-0.
India’s other wushu representatives in Chengdu were Asian Games 2023 silver medallist Roshibina Devi Naorem (women’s 60kg sanda) and Abhishek Jamwal (men’s 56kg sanda). However, they both bowed out in the quarter-finals.

This was India’s second medal of the Games. Earlier, Rishabh Yadav had bagged bronze in men’s compound archery.
With Namrata’s silver, and Rishabh’s bronze India’s all-time tally at the World Games history now stands at seven medals — one gold, two silvers, and four bronzes. The previous five medals were taken by:
- Aditya Snehal Mehta’s snooker gold at Cali 2013
- Sumita Laha’s powerlifting silver at Karlsruhe 1989
- Prakash Padukone’s men’s singles badminton bronze at Santa Clara 1981
- Rekha Mal’s powerlifting bronze at Karlsruhe 1989
- Abhishek Verma & Jyothi Surekha Vennam’s mixed team compound archery bronze at Birmingham 2022
